JC: I love the idea of charging this radio with my phone charger. In an emergency, I can use the hand winder to manually charge it. Or even use the solar panel. Great torch. Compact. Robust. I like everything about this radio apart from the sound quality. Really strange that the very thing you purchase it for, sound, is it's weakest point. The speaker is quite poor and there isn't any tone control so you're stuck with poor sound. Pity really, because I really like the radio and all its versatility.

Sam: Purchased it on February 2020
Barely used it as it’s for emergency
I did charge it from time to time
Everything worked when I purchased it
But now hand crank doesn’t charge /work for USB and I don’t really know if it charges the battery
Battery never fully charges and is low capacity
Very hard to find a replacement battery and solar is not dependable
Everything else is great
But useless for emergency
It’s sad , cause I really like it
I’ve purchased many sangean products in the past, but now I’m not sure anymore

Brainman: PRESETS
This is the only radio I've had with presets over both bands, instead of a set for each band. The oddest number of 19. Not 20.
It is unecessarily limiting - as the smaller bright orange HanRongDa HRD-900 Solar Radio has 30 each band for a 120 total; that's more per band than Sangean's total, at third the price. And it's awkward. You press the band, Preset turns off. You press Preset, it changes band.
Normally, logically, it stays on the band. Even writing it trying to clarify is confusing.
But the other sol rads of this size don't even have presets. Plus most others have US AM or 10kHz step only. The Sangean you can change to 9kHz needed for here.
This has no automatic scan search to store all station at onces. Each has to be memorized manually. The sweet orange does.
BATTERY
The worst choice is the battery, a 19350 is literally a 18650 cut in half even the others use, even the smaller one. They have 2 Amp or more, or 5. This baby is under 1.
WEATHER OR NOT
Of course the US Weather channels won't work in Oz.
AWKWARD BUTT PRESSES
Even the Power button is wrong. You can't do a short press. Just long, and longer.
No alarm. But...

Fornatu: Sangean MMR-88
It’s hard to give a proper review of electronics. Like 99.999% of you, I paid for the item outright. It wasn’t given to me to review. A proper review would allow me to compare it to other Mfg's products in the same price range (a proper Review). If Sangean or any other Mfg’r wants me to do a proper review, contact me, and send your item!
Given these limitations, here are my brief thoughts on some of the features of the Sangean MMR-88:
DURABILITY – I’ve dropped it 3x on a hardwood floor from about 4’. No damage to the case, nor any damage to the item itself. The case and rubber coated sides have taken a licking and keep on ticking.
SOUND – I’m a professional musician. I like the sound very much. Both external speaker and with headphones/earbuds. It’s a stereo unit for those who use earbuds. Digital tuning helps to lock in local stations. Sound quality over extended listening is not unpleasurable.
AM/FM RECEPTION -
So far, so good. Picks up all the stations I like to listen to. I live in Los Angeles. To tune in to some stations (KFI-640 for instance) it's easier for me to simply turn the radio a few degrees...

Dan F., WI: This is the first Sangean radio I've bought, but it won't be the last. Except for a "boom-box" era relic, every radio I have is AC powered, so I thought it would a good idea to have something basic that I could rely on during power outages. Then I realized that this would also be something good to have while camping, backpacking or even in the car on long trips. It is, after all, an EMERGENCY RADIO! This review will not include information already in the Amazon product description.
The construction is very substantial. It's made with the same plastic material used in the making of various construction-site things that "take a licking but keep on ticking". The radio is protected from "drop" damage by thick, screwed on, rubberized protective caps. One rubberized end has a flap that gives access to/protects the connections for headphones (the use of which mute the speaker), USB power-in and USB power-out. Now, DO realize that this is a basic AM/FM radio with a Weather Band and an Emergency Weather Alert setting. You cannot play your iPod or iPhone through it as it has no external input. You CAN, however, charge either of these items from the radio itself. The quality, design...
