LizzieW: This is a great radio for the price and so easy to use. I just set it to Auto Scan for the channel and voila, I was all set and ready to go. I've used other weather radios that were so complicated that I had to keep the manual near them.
BUT...
The bummer is that NOAA, at least in my area...is about as reliable as having nothing at all. I'm so fed up with them and they are just another example of bloated government wasting our tax dollars. Anytime I need radar during bad storms, the radar doesn't work and then today, with Hurricane Hermine approaching me, my Weather Alert Radio is telling me to find another channel because channel 7 is temporarily disconnected. I can't set this radio to another channel that will work. There are only 7 channels and all the others are just static
Yesterday the alarm did go off and WOW, it is really loud which is what I wanted but so glad that my dog wasn't here alone having to listen to that for hours. After the alarm sounds, you just hit the bottom button and it then shifts to display only for that message and the appropriate lights turn on for watch or warning. I recommend this radio since it works well but only...

Synette Parrish: The Radio Shack Hazard Alert Weather Radio was a definite must have living in an area where hurricane and tornado are prevalent in the state of Florida. I presently own one and wanted to purchase one for my father and mother to have in case of a emergency in their home. This particular Hazard alert radio is certified by Public Alert and NOAA and will notify you of any weather alerts in your area to which you program it. I found it a very simple operation, and it has functions that allow the alert status in stages from ready, advisory watch and then warning. You can also program it for other areas where you would like to keep track of the weather beside where you live. It can be plugged it to a outlet or battery operated. (Requires 6AA batteries, which I would recommend in case of a power outage, which are common in the state of Florida during hurricane season.) A Good Price for Safety.

Stevo69: Unit came new and at a great price! Have to set all the bells and whistles, but a nice unit nevertheless. Receives 3 NOAA broadcasts from my location. The local at 20 miles away, the second at 45 miles away, and the third at 60 miles away in New York state just with the equipped telescopic antenna, have to set the counties for alerts, can't wait to do that and get ready, because the severe weather season is not too far away in N.E. Pa. Thank You Sunday Seconds for a nice unit at a great price and fast delivery! Thanks again.

B. Andrews: I ordered 4 originally. Caution, do not buy from Capitol Outlet. 3 came in perfect and in new condition. 1 came in used, scratched up, and with double sided tape on the back of it.

The other 3 work perfectly. I had no issues programming it. Did not even look at the book till I wanted to set the time. The rest was prompted on start up.

I like the back light on auto. Power saving and functional. The volume is great, if not too loud. The alarm clock works well and the audio quality is adequate.

My home is on the fringe of coverage so the signal is not perfect. However, you can build or buy external antennas. NOAA even has links on their site for how to do so.

The alerts work well and I like how granular the options are.

Since ordering these, I have now ordered 6 more for people I work with and family members. That is how much I like these.
