If you’ve never had a salad shooter, this is just a heavy duty, more versatile and precise version of the original salad shooter. Been through 3 of them, we use them all the time for tons of things jr sucks to do by hand, and this is the totally boss model.

hazmar: I’ve only used it twice on cucumber’s. Other than thin slices they turned out nice. It’s too bad this doesn’t have a bigger watt motor so it could handle larger sliced loads. I was hesitant to buy a mere 114 watt motor appliance. The old one has 125. You would think Presto would up their game not lower it. Feeding chamber may be bigger than old model but still small. They used a small potato and someone with small hands to demo in the picture. Happy so far. Would like to try the crinkle cut for home made potato chips see how that goes.

SharH: I had an older version of this that eventually wore out. Didn't think I really needed another one but decided to try it. I forgot how much I liked it. Heavy duty. Easier for me than getting out a food processor but probably doesn't do as many things. Makes quick work of slicing carrots, celery, cucumbers, potatoes. Does do onions too but need to quarter them first and then slices are pretty un-uniform but I usually don't mind.

Agent Pro: At the end of the day it's not worth the price. It's loud and although it works I'll stick to a manual grader

Ann: a lot of particles stay in the machine. I will use the bits for soup. I did order the fine slicer for carrots etc. Looking for to that in the mail.

brainout: UPDATE, 5/10/13: Downgraded to two stars. I hardly use this anymore. There are too many things it can't slice/shred well (celery, onions, anything of that caliber); it stains (especially with carrots), is hard to clean, and is loud. Yeah, you can expect it to handle raw potatoes, zucchini, cucumber well. But a regular food processor could do a better job with less rumble, wiggle, and noise. If you have to shred a lot of carrots (especially since the stain lasts), it still works for that, too. But food sticks everywhere in the thing. I understand the problem now: the blades a) aren't sharp enough, and b) are too flat, so a lot of what you're trying to slice, just whirs round between the cone and the motor turning the cone. A real mess.
If anyone claims they can shred cheese with it, they must be nearly freezing the cheese beforehand, and the cleanup must be horrendous. I'm in the market for something to replace this ill-designed airplane. It sits on top of my range ledge, gathering dust, and is not at all easy to store. Seems like all food processors are problems, these days. Original review, follows below.

Donna C.: I bought this because I was getting tired of hand-grating cheese, but didn't want to haul out the big food processor for smaller jobs. It works pretty well for that. I've been using it for Colby cheese and mild cheddar and it does a good job with those. I suspect that softer cheese like mozzarella would be more difficult unless it was frozen a bit to firm it up. I also tried shredding some vegetables. I liked that, as well, for things like zucchini, but that's not something I need very often. Onion didn't work well using the shredding cone, but the slicer worked way better. It wasn't what anyone would call perfect knife cuts, but it was good enough - the way the onion goes into the chute matters, and that's something I'll probably have to practice with. I haven't tried all the cones yet, but for the primary task - shredding cheese - this is a winner. Plus, it's easy to clean since I just chuck all the pieces into the dishwasher and I don't have to think about them any more.
