Once they're lit, they work really well, but getting them lit requires holding a flame to a specific edge of them for about a minute. The old ones that I got on sale at Menards were a lot easier to use.

Earthling: We have a wood stove as our primary heat source in winter. We use these to start the fire every day. The box has 24 sticks, but we break each one into 6-8 much smaller pieces. We only need one of the small pieces to get the fire going. We don't need them to start a fire, but they enable us to stoke up the stove and light it and then let it go. Very easy. We've tried another kind that looks like flat tan "wafers" - they burn up much too quickly and are gone before the wood has even begun to catch fire. This type of fire starter is perfect for us.

Fairsailing: We have used these in our wood stove, without kindling, for over 10 years. They light our dried oak every time, and we only use 1/4 of a block per start. That is 96 starts per box or about $0.12 per start. They do take up to 15 seconds of steady flame to get going, but for safety reasons, I am not sure I would want ignition any faster. The blocks are easy to divide, but a bit messy. I use gloves, a putty knife and divide them over newspaper, for easy cleanup. They come wrapped in 6 units of 4 blocks. I usually split one unit at a time (16 starts).

KeriKeri: I purchased three boxes of these and they were supposed to have 24 bricks in a box by accident they sent me two boxes and 1 mini package , but it was easy to have my missing box replaced they shipped it out right away .
There was nothing wrong with the boxes I received they were soft and easy to break apart , but did not crumble .
Honestly I break them in half and throw them in a plastic container with the lid off just to dry them out a little bit and they light fine . I am burning hardwood so that is often hard to light and keep going.
With the deal I got on these I don’t have to worry about lighting my woodstove and having it go out for the rest of the winter !!!
These are much better then other similar more expensive products I had used in the past .
They stayed lit for me .

Frank Paprota: This is an excellent product. However, buyers should note that you don't need to use an entire firestarter to get a fire going. I tear the brick in quarters or less (its very easy to tear) to start a fire in my chimea with a little kindling. When you figure that in, the cost is very competitive with other firestarters. In reality you are getting 100+ starts from one box.
