Midwest Hearth Fire Starter Squares Quick-Light Non-Toxic (144-count) are the best Fire Starters on the market. Made from compressed wood chips and recycled newspaper, these fire starters are not only safe, but also fast-lighting, allowing you to start a fire in your fireplace or wood stove in just 1/10th of a second. In addition, each fire starter provides up to 10 minutes of burning time, so you don't have to worry about wasting time and money. Plus, the quality of materials and packaging make these fire starters a great value for your money.Kari M: We have been using these for several years now and really like them. You don’t have to use the whole piece you can break it into smaller pieces to make them go further.

xxSilverFoxx: I use these for starting my fires for winter and carry a few when I got back packing. This is the 3rd year I bought them. First year was $18 a box, last year was $20 a box and this year I noticed it was $40 a box but they has a half off sale. No fore starter is worth $40 I'll make my own with Vaseline and cotton balls before I pay that ridiculous price. So my rating is only if they stick to $20 a box max. Anything more than that and you're getting ripped off.

M Gipe: Have used these for a few years to start lump charcoal. Really glad I found them as they make the process much more predictable and consistent, regardless of outside temp. Easy to light (use a butane micro-torch) and long lasting scent free burning.

babzilla: We live in the northern Sierra Nevada. Snow came in early November before I had a chance to gather a winter’s worth of pine cones. The snow has stayed.
I tried a couple of other fire starter products with limited success. Frustrating, really, to keep starting the fire.
I’ve had no problem with these little squares. I was doubtful at first because they are so small. There’s easily a winter’s worth of starters in the box. The price was very reasonable. I really do think I’ll continue to use them & forget gathering pine cones, which is a pain, anyway.
