D: Peter's book gives a real insight into his life. The caring Vet we see on Yorkshire Vet who follows James Herriots footsteps is as kind and interesting in person as he is on TV.

P. M.: A biography with good English vet and farm stories. Since I can’t see the Yorkshire Vet live in the US this was a nice supplement to episodes I can view on Prime.

GJR: Wonderful, Herriot-style book. It brought to life, once more, the people, places, animals and character of Yorkshire. When people ask me if I've ever been to Yorkshire, I happily answer, yes, through the wonder of books - Herriot's and Peter's. Thanks for the journeys.

lovr of elegant prose: Steeped in the milk of human kindness illuminated in James Herriot’s books, Peter Wright brings the next generation’s perspective on the same veterinary practice thirty years later. Peter Wrightgrew up in the same neighborhood as and was inspired to become a vet by the real characters who inspired the books by James Herriot. He reveals a real love of the region, the animals, the profession and the people. While not the same brilliant story teller as Herriot, Peter Wright gives us a treat to get another window onto these characters and their legacy

Carlos: An excellent look at a life and working life that many would call ideal. Living and working where you make a difference in your community and surrounding are. All the while being part of history as veterinary practices advanced so quickly in his lifetime. Some of my favorite books are the James Herriot books, and this biography reminds me so much of those tremendous books. You laugh, cry, and get emotional right along with the author, Peter, as he tells his life's story. This is a book that I recommend to everyone who enjoys veterinary practice and animals. It's not for everyone, but if that's your field, then I insist you give it your attention.

v: This book was so enjoyable. Touching on Mr. Wright's formative years, working with Alf Wight and Donald Sinclair, and up through opening Skeldale and filming the Yorkshire Vet. Luckily, I was introduced to The Yorkshire Vet through Acorn TV. I especially enjoyed meeting the interesting Yorkshire folks the Peter has encountered through the years, and the animals he has treated. I liked hearing his views on climate change, the changing farming scene, both good and bad, and even about depression (being a person that suffers from depression). This book showed what a compassionate, caring man Mr. Wright is. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Riggers: Anyone of a certain age (me) who grew up with James Herriott and visited Yorkshire more than I should, and enjoyed the original series and has bought the box set DVD of the original series, and who doesnlt like the films and can only picture James as Christpher Timothy and Seigfried as the magnificent Rober Hardy.............really resisted this newcomer. Wrongly. He is the genuione article, apprenticed to JH and Co and carroes on the practice. I came across the series at series 10, backtracked, can't wait for more and had to buy the books. Is there a downside? Yes - he has not got, however much he tries, the natural talent Alf Wight had as James Herriott in descriptive writing. He paints a picture and is as good as JK Rowling in allowing a scene to develop in your head without having to see any photographs.
However, it is lovely to see the links between the Wights and the Wrights, and the partnership (which survives a clear split half way through the series) with him and Julian Norton allows a faintly similat scenario of old masters Peter and Seigfried and young 'uns Julian and James.

Excellent, gentle, heartfelt honest reading, which made me read all the Herripott...

Catsinacradle: I am so happy to find Peter Wright's memoir. The Yorkshire Vet was one of the 1st programs I watched on Acorn Media streaming service. The same joy & ethos I felt
reading the Alf Wight books also shine through this biography of Alf's trainee, Peter.
Now that Acorn TV has added series 3-5 of The Yorkshire Vet I can continue to watch with greater understanding of the importance of the country vet in Great Britain. For all the ups & downs of vet practice & the big decisions that have to be made, I think Alf Wight & Donald Sinclair would say to Peter & all of the people of Skeldale Veterinary Centre, well done, you!

Yorkshire Lass: This is an absolutely fantastic, well written book!! I was so looking forward to reading it, and it certainly didn't disappoint. I was upset when I finished the last page, as I truly did not want the book to end and I could have carried on reading it forever. It was a really heartfelt account of his background and how he started as a vet. It had me both laughing and crying, and to my mind that is a sign of a really great book! Here's hoping that he writes another soon....
Peter doesn't come across as a showoff or have a "look at me, look what I'm doing/done" attitude in the book, in real life, at work or on the TV, (unlike some other person who I won't mention). What you see is what you get with him, which is a truly genuine, kind and warm North Yorkshire gentleman. In my opinion Peter is THE Yorkshire Vet and always will be!!
