SuzSuz: I have purchased other grains from Great River. Have been purchasing whole organic spelt from them for quite a few years. This purchase (whole corn) is every bit the quality I have come to expect from this company. I am very pleased.
I bought this for two purposes: making foot warmers, and also to grind for baking cast iron skillet cornbread.
I tried organic corn from the local feed mill, but it was so full of grit, stones, chaff and oats that it created a lot more work for me. I'm going to feed that bag to the squirrels and crows.
This bag of organic, whole corn from Great River Organic Milling is beautifully clean throughout--it's just whole corn. I have bagged it into 6 gallon-size zip lock bags to help maintain freshness during storing and it was clean all the way to the bottom of the bag. I got about 1/2 teaspoon of dust at the bottom of the bag--amazing quality to me!
I will definitely be ordering more of this in the future and would feel very comfortable recommending this food grade product to others.
Thank you so much Great River! I am a big fan of your products.

William Fleenor: I bought this product with the intention of brewing with it. But before I used it for brewing I ground up a pound of it to try it in a cornbread recipe I found.
Wow, the flavor is so rich. I ground the corn with my Mock Mill not too fine, a little on the coarse side. The texture of the cornbread is more coarse than I am used to in traditional cornbread made with premilled cornmeal, but my wife and I really enjoyed the more rustic texture and color which was deeper slightly orange tint. The recipe allowed regular milk or buttermilk but suggested buttermilk for even better flavor. I didn't have buttermilk so had to use regular milk. Next time I'm using buttermilk because I love warm cornbread and a glass of buttermilk.
This is a great product. Excited to try some chili pie using cornmeal from this corn.

Ms. OptimisticMs. Optimistic: I initially purchased this bag of corn for the task of attempting to make grits. Yes, grits. I am a Yankee and have never been a fan, but my husband and son both LOVE grits and can eat them every single day. After purchasing (and preparing) organic yellow corn grits from the bulk bin at Earth Fare, I came to understand how people could possibly enjoy eating such a thing. Because Earth Fare is so far from my home, I wondered if it would be possible for me to grind my own grits at home.
After some research, I was confident that it was a realistic possibility, so I purchased a manual corn mill and this bag of corn. Although I was eager to make grits, I was prompted to open the bag in response to a request for cornbread. After reading other reviews, I have to admit that I was somewhat unsure about what I would find in the bag, as others have described having lots of debris. I was beyond relieved to find what appears to be a bag of clean corn. I stuck a measuring cup in, scooped the corn, and inspected the sample. No debris, no rocks. It all looked good.
Using my manual corn mill, I cracked the corn into smaller pieces before transferring to my electric grain mill to make...

Chris Hardwick: Here's the latest update: They sent me a new 25 pound bag of corn and it's simply fantastic! It looks really clean, 100% corn, and all of the kernels are whole, it almost looks washed and sorted. Sounds like they got off to a bad start selling the stuff at the bottom of the silo. I will definitely be buying this again.

OK, so I changed my rating from one star to five stars. I contacted the manufacturer and they admitted that they have had a problem with grain at the end of their bins not being as clean as they should be. They are going to send out another bag of corn that is clean, no charge! I don't care how bad a product is, if the supplier stands behind their product and is willing to replace (or refund) that's all that really counts in my book!

{My original review}:
I've been looking for new grains for my grain mill and thought this would make a good corn bread. When I opened it up I found that it was extremely poor quality. There are corn stalks and other seeds in the mix (wheat?) as well as seed pods from who knows...

RJS: Corn is good quality, whole and clean. Putting in long term storage and I'm confident it will make great corn meal/flour.
