Cynthia K: Great product for healthier baking. This is NOT a hydrogenated shortening, and can be hard to find in stores. After trying this product, I purchased four more together. Not only was this to save on shipping, but because the containers are so small - about 2 cups worth, like buying cottage cheese or sour cream. I hope Nutiva will introduce a larger format option.

Chloe: I bought this from Amazon because I haven't been able to find it at the grocery store or the health food store. I have several recipes that call for this as it is suppose to produce a nice baked good and it does, however, I didn't find that it was any better than butter which is cheaper. Given the cost, I wouldn't buy it again.

MelissaMelissa: I was on the hunt for palm shortening and this fit the bill.
Finding palm oil that is organic, fair trade, without preservatives and without controversy is difficult. Being in Canada does not help. So of course I was excited to find this product.
I bought this product to use in a vegan buttercream recipe. The recipe turned out great and met all of my expectations, it imparts little flavor and creates a luxurious texture. The only true issue I had with this product is (and perhaps my own fault) that it is in fact yellow instead of white. This meant that my buttercream was a pale yellow and would limit my ability to dye it certain colors.
It does say on the lid that it is made with red palm, however I did not see that on the product title on amazon. If you aren't using this product for buttercream or if you want to achieve a yellow, green, orange, or a dark color this should not be an issue.
The photo here is to show the yellow tone of my buttercream, it isn't a very harsh yellow but there is also no hiding it.
