freesample: I bought this to replace an old 12-station timer that stopped working. The timer is mounted on the outside of our house (which is stucco). It was very difficult to install the box -- I went through several drill bits, including masonry bits, and even then the supplied anchors would not slide all the way into the holes. That means the timer sits away from the wall a bit. Worse, though, is that the opening at the bottom of the box where the sprinkler wires come through is way too small! It's half the size of the opening in the box I replaced. AND, the old box had a hole that was threaded so the wires could be run through PVC pipe and securely attached to the bottom of the box. Not the case here.

Once installed, it is very simple to operate and has been reliable so far, especially for the price.

LL: The product arrived on time but a little difficult to mount. The mounting screw holes did not match the brick mortar because I was replacing an existing box; however, it was easy drilling new holes through the green plastic box. I did not have an AC receptacle outlet nearby so I cut the electric plug and re-used the existing #14 Romex wire. It was a small challenge installing the conduit fitting and then pulling the wire into the Orbit box due to limited space. I was able to do it but wished the box was an inch larger. Once the wires were connected, I found the sprinkler system very easy to operate.

Shaun Presley: Yesterday I went to adjust my sprinkler timers, but the stupid 30 year old plastic handle snapped on me -- perfect time to learn that one of my heads was busted. I fumbled with a screwdriver to turn the damn thing off before the geyser flooded my neighbors too hard, then I ordered this, somewhere around 2pm.

By 830ish pm this timer was on my front porch.

I opened it up and had a pretty decent idea of what I was doing just from opening the face and looking at it. This morning, I woke up to my stupid geyser flowing again. Neighbors yard is okay due to the blind luck of a slight angle of their driveway dumping all my water into the gutter...it's the little things, right? I went outside and turned the damn thing off around 615am.

Around 715 I go outside and get a picture of the old wiring harness rig, and unplugged the damn thing.

While I DID have about 20 min of confusion with the reconnecting the wires, as it turned out the problem was that whichever moron installed the old watering system actually put in the wiring harness label sticker upside-down, so what LOOKED like the power-in was actually the comm line. Once I realized this, I had the thing running...

June Kawaguchi: This was a replacement for our older Orbit timer. Unfortunately, the wires from the solenoid of our older valves did not easily stay connected and we spent a lot of time trying to figure out why. We searched the Internet but found no reason why the wires would not stay in the designated slots and no solution for this problem. Otherwise, the timer is superior to our older time.
