RS193RS193: There was some mod work and filing required on the part before this item fit correctly on the neck, but these adjustments were minor and didn't take too long - make sure you know how to adjust things like this before you buy, and how to solder the electronics for the guitar, this was a new experience for me. Other than that, very happy with the finish on the project, knobs feel solid and no electronics problems.

William J Sheehan: I got the "black" option, with the black pickup covers and knobs, for my silver Squier Affinity Strat. The guitar originally came with a white pickguard, white pickup covers and knobs. The black looks so good against the silver body!

Honestly, I'm not very handy, but within the space of an hour, I had this pre-wired pickguard installed and working just fine.

I actually didn't un-solder or re-solder anything. When removing the old guard, I was careful to leave a generous length of wire remaining at each of the three locations where I needed to "snip" the already-existing connections in order to free up and remove the old guard-- these would be the positive (white) and negative (black) wires connected to the guitar's output jack, and also the black ground wire that runs back to the tremolo claw.

I then matched up the two black wires and one white wire (extending from the new unit) with their "counterpart wires" running off the guitar's output jack (1 black, 1 white) and tremolo claw grounding point (1 black), carefully stripped back sufficient insulation to be able to twist each matching pair together securely, and wrapped each of those three connections with...

FreeDive: Overall, I’m happy with the quality of this item. Sounds great and easy to adjust. I was able to toenail in all the screws for my Squier Strat, so no complaints there even though this was comically misaligned. Was a little disappointed that I needed to solder three wires, but now I know how to solder (sort of) and now own a soldering iron, so overall a net gain. Plugged it in and it worked and sounded great, so I’d recommend this for a budget build or refurb.

Chris From BamaChris From Bama: Now people mistakenly take for granted that I am playing a "toy" entry level guitar until I actually plug in. By no means should you expect the performance you would find in an expensive single coil pick-up, but for the costs, they pack a punch. Clear high and lows unlike the "muddy" stock pick-ups which were replaced. Relatively simple to install. Like others, a few of the screw holes were not exactly aligned but an easy fix. Now awaiting on the final mod- black locking tuners which will definitely help stay in tune.

David K.: I had to do a bit more than just solder 2 wires to fit this prewired pickguard onto my early 2000s Squier Strat, since no two Strat clones are exactly the same, I would definitely NOT blame Musiclily's prewired pickguard for that. Despite some of the reviews, the pickups actually sound really good in my opinion, maybe not better than extremely high end Seymour Duncans or Fender's pro series single coils, but this is a huge upgrade for most of the cheap Strats or Strat clones I have played. The SSS configuration is what I got, and is perfect for playing clean, blues, or classic rock, and it sounds awesome with a RAT style distortion effect. Most would recommend humbuckers for playing with really high gain distortion like metal or punk music rather than this configuration. Overall this was a really fun project, and got me really into modding my Strat, I will probably be buying Musiclily's bridge and tuners next.

I don't think anyone should be dissuaded from purchasing this just because you might need to do a bit of planning or some extra soldering to get everything to fit your particular Strat style guitar; but I wanted to include this just as an example for some...

Pudknocker71Pudknocker71: Wow.. really WOW for the money. Looks and SOUNDS great! No hum at all.
Used to replaced 2010 Squire components. Some minor fitment issues like slightly misaligned holes and loose wires. I had to route the wires a little to get it to lay flat. Probably a normal problem.
I didn't have any major problems with the screw holes. Leave your screws loose till you get them all started. Also there is a metal grounding layer that may overlap holes you'll need to punch through.
Reminder...if you use this on a Squire ... Drilling is required! I was able it punch holes in the body with an all and insert the screws by hand (cheap Squire body).
Despite the fitment issues I really can't mark it down for a catch all product.
