RaiRai: No where near 19 inches. Barely reaches 10 with the pencil fully extended. The screw won't allow it to open any farther and the nut on the end does not come off.
I'll keep it for future use but it won't work on my current project.

Amazon Customer: The compass seems very sturdy and mostly suitable for it's intended use. My only concern is the size of the pencil holder. It seems quite narrow for the pencils in common use. I haven't used it as yet but I'm sure I can modify the pencils if needed.
