Dave: This is a good weather radio and you should have one at least in your house. It is VERY durable! Why can I say that? Because I'm writing this review 18 years after purchase and we still use it and it works great still.

Cons: Programming for alerts is a little awkward but the manual is pretty good and unless you move you only do that once. For example if you only want alerts for certain things in your area you can do that so it isn't going off for other events. In my case as an example we are very low flood risk so I have those alerts off but want tornado warnings.

Squariel: In constant use over the past four years for hurricane and other weather updates here on the Florida coast. Got an error code and couldn't use the menu functions. Midland support responded same day to my email to explain the code. Cleaned the switches under the rubber boot with DeoxIT and works perfectly again. Excellent tech support on a product well past the warranty period.

Phoenix Lain: I able to figure out how to program it without even reading the directions, but I did go back and read up all the details to see if I missed anything. It actually has a lot of different alert options from visual, sound, and voice. The AM/FM works, although I imagine your reception has more to do with your location and surroundings than it does the radio.

I see people complaining about it not giving off alerts, did you not choose your state and county? There’s no way it doesn’t go off unless somehow you screwed up when you were programming it. It’s not a smart radio, it doesn’t have GPS to locate your exact coordinates, so it won’t give you alerts without programming it. As long as you choose your state and county, you can know with certainty it’ll work. The S.A.M.E stations are pretty easy to check as there’s only handful of national codes, and depending on your region, the same codes can/will be different for someone in New York vs someone in Texas. I was able to pick up around 4-5 different codes (areas) within my state by moving the antenna around. I found most of them to be pretty similar in content outside of one that is located around 200+ miles away....

ameede: The alarm is loud, very loud, and that volume when the alarm goes off is not adjustable, the voice on the radio is adjustable but not the alarm itself. They need to include the feature of a remote that will turn off the alarm otherwise you’re getting up a lot to shut off the alarm. There has been storms here throughout the day and I have gotten up several times already to shut off the alarm. It’s a real inconvenience but the product is solid, easy to setup and does what it is suppose to do. It has three different colored warning lights that are nice to keep you informed about any storms in your area. I plan on keeping it but I wouldn’t buy another one with it being so loud. It does not matter where you are in the house you hear it clearly, again it needs a remote to turn off the remote. Oooops, there it goes and here I go.

Sythe: I expected this unit would work in Canada but it is barely able to receive signals from 40 Km's away. I had to (as per customer service instructions) put it in a window with the antenna against the window. Looks terrible.

Saludos.

KatyKatMidwest: This radio looks really good wherever you place it. Ours looked exactly as advertised.
The design is not obtrusive, doesn't require a huge footprint, and the buttons are easy to use.

The only DOWNSIDE I found is a major one - the battery consumption is apparently off the charts.
I didn't put cheapie batteries in it either - I got the blue lithium Energizer batteries.
That is the only one we use in our digital cameras due to their ability to last. I take an average of
500 photos a month between my home business and our family and pets, and get at least a month of camera
usage from a set. (I date them all with a Sharpie so I know how long they last.) Even when they are spent
for camera purposes, they still have enough power in them to get our haircutters going, so they are great batteries.

Anyway, I put in a brand new set of the blue lithiums 24 DAYS ago. I had the radio turned on to program it,
but other than that, turned it off until/unless severe storms were in the area. We hadn't had any, so it wasn't
sitting in the "on" position, listening to the regular radio, etc etc.

We had reason to use it this past Saturday, April 24th, when...
