Medify MA-50 Air Purifier: Enjoy Fresh, Clean Air in Your Home

m. olaf hinz: Not having any expertise in the area of air purification, and wanting a purifier to mitigate Covid, I did what research I could and opted for this Medify product in May of ’21. Pluses for me were the 4-sided filter (taking in air from all sides), the 4 speed options (particularly as I needed something very quiet at times), its ability to filter particulates down to .1 micron, and the (safe) UV function. The first unit failed to function, so I reached out to their customer service who responded in less than a day. After having me double-check for the obvious (loose plug, etc.), they authorized a return-replace. The second unit fired right up. Speed 1 was super quiet, 3 akin to soft white noise, and 4 quite loud but not at all unpleasant. However, as has been noted in other reviews, speed 2 had an irritating hum. This was problematic for me because, for specific situations, I wanted a higher speed than 1 but not as clearly audible as 3. I reached out to Medify again, with a video of speed 2, and was told this was endemic of the machine, but that their R & D department would look into it. Trsj: This is a great unit. very light weight so it's easy to move, looks really nice and works great. It does a great job reducing dust, cooking smoke/odors and the occasional VOG from the volcano that blows over Oahu occasionally, which can be pretty noxious at times. It would be nice if ALL the lights on the unit could be turned completely off, except maybe the power and fan speed buttons. Sleep mode has three settings to select different dimming modes dimming the control buttons on the top panel and turning off the blue border on the front panel, and slightly dimming the fan speed/UV indicator lights on the front panel, however none of the modes turn completely off any of the lights. The front panel lights are too bright at night in my bedroom, so I have to turn the unit so the front panel faces the wall, but the lights still reflect off the wall somewhat. The first fan speed setting is very quiet and can barely hear it. The second speed is not very much louder at all. The third speed has about the same sound level as a small oscillating floor fan on medium speed, whereas the fourth speed is quite loud, almost like my Dyson V10 vacuum cleaner on setting one, but...

HB Dude: This is an impressive air purifier. I own 4 air purifiers and this one is the best one. It’s the strongest and biggest. There’s a nuisance cigarette smoker in my vicinity. And their smoke smell starts to drift into my place. I flip this machine on and it just sucks it away. I no longer smell the smoke. The other air purifiers I have don’t do that.

I initially bought this one because it has a high CADR rating which is great for those harder to capture particles like smoke. A lot of the other air purifiers have a lower number and I needed one that was over 450, which is for cigarette smoke. This one has a CADR number of 500! And yes it does work for me.

In general outside of that, I run this for an hour at night before bed to clear the air in the room. I try to only use this one then and with the occasional smoke smell. I don’t run this one all day as I’m sure it’ll be expensive since it’s so heavy duty. For the rest of the time I use the less powerful purifiers. But this one is my favorite. It’s like the gold of air purifiers. Clears the room within 15 minutes. The air blasting out of it is so fresh it’s like a new...
