I ordered this on total impulse. Not as a gift. Not for any particular purpose other than I thought it looked nice and was a fun little experiment. I actually have been loving having the thermometer in my room because I learned that the temp in my room is 3 degrees cooler than what the thermostat says in the house!!! I know what you're thinking, 'get a life right'? Idc!!!! The storm glass I was afraid wouldn't show much but we've had a lot of stormy weather here and it has predicted it with complete accuracy.. I'm not joking!

This came well packaged and it looked very well put together despite some of the other reviews. Mine was not damaged or loose in the setting at all. The wooden frame has a nice polished cherry wood finish and the entire unit is a nice size to place on a desktop, mantle or display on a shelf. The little "bulbs" in the Galileo thermometer moved freely without sticking. The storm glass tube had nice clear liquid with the crystals to the bottom and had very clear descriptions of each condition the crystals take and what they mean right on the tube. Understanding that it will take a while to acclimate and work correctly, I won't comment on it's operation since I only opened the box to be sure it was intact before wrapping it as a gift. So just 4 stars since I don't know if they actually work as intended, but it certainly appears well put together, attractive and a conversation starter/curiosity for the weather geek or person who likes interesting and nostalgic items. Great little gift item. If it works even somewhat, I'd go 5 stars.
I bought this for my father for Christmas and liked it so much I will be ordering one for my office.
