Lifetime 71522: Play Like a Pro with the Competition XL Portable Basketball Hoop

Duncan Scarry: This thing is a nightmare to build. Two parts came stuck together and when I called and asked for support their advice was to throw them on the ground several times to see if they would come apart. The instructions label the parts with letters but none of the parts actually have those letters on them so you have no idea what part is what.

Spent the better part of 4 hours taking it apart and assembling it. This thing is just the hunk of junk.

StephenStephen: First, the assembly manual is the best I've seen for something like this so far. Detailed writing and pictures that actually match the parts with very good details. That was enough for me to go on but they also had optional YouTube videos for each step with QR codes to scan which was really nice.

Now for the hiccups (with the parts lettered as they are in the manual):
1. Step 4.2: After you tighten the screws AQB, The nuts AAN will not tighten all the way to the metal. Maybe it's supposed to be that way but it's hard to tell; it works fine and the screws don't move
2. Step 4.3: The rubber parts AQC will not fit when the bolt from step 5.7 is put in place. I had to cut a small piece off the midsection of AQC to make room the the bolt.
3. Step 4.4: my bolt AAD had damaged threads on the very tip and attempting to tighten the nut would have ripped it off or damaged it further. I had to cut off the damaged tip with a hacksaw to proceed.
4. Step 5.7: piece APR (finger touching in photo) was too long. It would fit but there wouldnt any room for the rear lifter arms (ALS) that was supposed to be installed with it. I actually had to get my multi-tool out and cut about a...

Steve: Top quality!! We bought this for Christmas for our son and it is absolutely brilliant. It ticks all his boxes and expectations especially with the ease to higher and lower the ring, which is fantastic.
Be prepared though, assembly is painstakingly slow. I did it on my own and it took 7-hours - I did have to redo some assembly sections for not paying closer attention to the detail in the instructions. Like all instructions they could be easier and with better parts coding but it was worth the blisters in the end. I recommend you assembly with someone to help.
Worth the price!!

CarlCarl: This hoop is killer. The acrylic backboard plays and feels like a glass backboard. The unit is very sturdy and is very high quality. The only thing I would say is make sure you have plenty of time to assemble it and you definitely need 1-2 other people to help when it gets time to lift the pole into place and secure the backboard to the lift system.

Christopher J Kipper: Very nice hoop. My kids love it. Very easy to adjust up and down. I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 because of the assembly. I don't claim to be a brain surgeon, but the assembly was fairly time consuming and took two adults. All in all, well worth the price of admission and so far we've gotten a lot of good use out of it.

SD Mom: Okay, it did take a while to put together. Two adults and a few hours. But the kids love it! I can't believe how smoothly and easily the hoop adjusts. My five year old is able to move it up and down by himself, and it seems so sturdy that I am not worried about him getting hurt. The only minor issue to point out is that the sticker that is supposed to be used so you can adjust to exact heights did not work with our system. Not sure if there was a product update and the stickers are outdated, but they did not fit. We made our own marks on the post so we know where to position the hoop for specific heights. But overall, I think it is a great hoop for the price.
