this thing has been running nonstop in my spare bedroom for a year now, and works great! The room smells fresh and clean, even though it is closed off and rarely used, (or dusted😂).

Yep, you read that title right. If my memory is correct, I bought this exact same unit in black circa 2003. A couple of days ago, the motor (or some other metallic component based on the smell) finally gave out. I've been using it as a white noise maker every night since it was purchased. Never replaced the filter, never even really dusted the thing. And it kept cranking faithfully for over 6500 days. I have also never had panic subside more quickly than when I found out the unit was still in production (and I could get it in white to maintain the white aesthetic in my room :thumbs-up:).
So if you're looking for a white noise maker (or air purifier--given the amount of dust in the old one, it was *definitely* doing its job) then look no further than this bad boy. Compact unit that's loud enough to drown out deafening silence, but not sound like a jet engine taking off. Planning to give my old one a proper Viking send off as well this weekend for its years of faithful service :salute:.

Had it running continuously about 2 weeks, and no problems so far. If it has problems that the lower reviews mentioned, I'll update.
That said, as far as cleaning out allergens, I live in a two-bedroom with two long hair cats. I had a friend stay who is very allergic to cats. So, I did a massive cleaning and washing of everything, closed up one room a few days before she arrived, and put the air filter in there running continuously.
During that time, the cats snuck into the room a few times, and under the door was never sealed.
When she arrived, we sat up talking for a few hours, and she started sniffling and her eyes were red, so she headed to her room. She said that laying next to the air purifier, it felt like "the itch was being sucked out of my eyes."
So, for $45, I am perfectly pleased. I was able to create a livable retreat in a cat household for my friend, and we were able to have a very enjoyable weekend instead of her having to spend hundreds of dollars on a hotel room.
Even if it turns out this is not suitable for long term, continuous use, it does what it is supposed to, and more than did what I needed it to.

My husband was VERY skeptical about this purchase, but after using this air purifier for three months now, he's sold and I am confident in its abilities to do what it claims to do.
The both of us were having problems with feeling 'stuffy' when we woke up in the morning. Our room isn't very big so its easy to keep clean and prevent dust from accumulating. Leaving a window open to assist with air circulation didn't help and isn't practical when its really hot or really cold outside.
This baby solved our problem. Although it was a bit bigger than I though it'd be, we had no problem finding a place for it that satisfied both the required operating clearance and aesthetics of our room.
We kept it on high for the first week or so and the both of us noticed a dramatic difference in our breathing. We also tried out the optional ionizer. It does an ok job of reducing odors, but don't expect a miracle. All in all we luv it and it has certainly improved our sleeping experience.
PROS:
- Works very well dispite its size
- True HEPA filter is a big plus
- Quiet on lower settings
- Washable pre-filter -- Helps extend the life of the HEPA...

I had to move it away from the bed and across the room because of that so I could sleep. This one also has a washable pre-filter while the old one had disposable ones so I will see how that works out after awhile.
Does the job, though.
