Since I'm the only coffee drinker in the last 12 year bought two others more expensive that just didn't perform well.
Both seemed!ro take forever and one would turn off before coffew!was brewed orwell before the time protection. Simple you want a good clean look that's makes great coffee , and SAVES COUNTER SPACE buy this one. Not mine get your own.....

Marion : I absolutely love this little coffee pot. It is easy to use, easy to clean, takes up little space and is adorable. It fits my needs but I can’t say anything about all the little gadgets because I have no need for them. I make one mug of coffee at a time because that is all I need. I do have to put in a bit more than 2 cups of water and I use a glass to put the water in because that way it doesn’t drip. Fast and easy. I turn it off when the coffee is brewed so I don’t know if the automatic shut off works. I have used it once or twice a day for a week and I am happy.

This little coffee maker is almost perfect. It makes good, hot coffee fast. I don't use the timer so I can't comment on that. The pitcher works fine. I think Hamilton Beach only has a couple of things to consider further with this one, which aren't really that big a deal for me so far. To address these things in a model update would make it even nicer.

It needs a bigger water receptacle; the inside of the water chamber at the top where the water is poured is made in such a way that the water has to be added slowly enough so none will spill out over the sides while you're pouring it in - a minor inconvenience for me in a small coffee maker (I only make 1 or 2 cups at a time). If you have unsteady hands it could be a bigger problem for you, especially if you make a full pot every time. Hamilton Beach would have to make the opening big enough so water for 5 cups could easily be poured in with little overflow risk.

The graduated water viewport would be better and easier to see if it was in front and not on the side, and made of clear plastic. It's awkward to pour the water and then have to crane your neck or turn the...

Elliott Terman: The Hamilton Beach 5 cup coffee maker is just what the doctor ordered. It does make a great cup of coffee, but as the title says … read the instructions very carefully. They are written or transferred to the site by a person whose first language is NOT ENGLISH. I can understand why some of the purchasers couldn’t get the machine to operate, or co-operate. Some of the instructions are not clear … such as, how to get the clock started. I had to play with it for a “few” frustrating minutes before it dawned on me that I needed a thirteen years old to get it working. [A Thirteen Year Old with a computer mentality]. When that light came on, it was clear sailing.

As compared to the single serve Kuerig coffee maker it replaced, it makes a CUP OF COFFEE. For instance … I used three (3) LEVEL coffee scoops with four (4) cups of water … on regular, NOT robust … and the coffee was COFFEE! And, the brew was HOT, not lukewarm.

I paid a fair price, and got a good coffee maker. You won’t be sorry for the purchase. But, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY and you’ll not get frustrated.

Treva Dirkson: We were looking for a compact coffee maker for a small space. This one really fit the bill, it sits under the counter with room to spare. The fact that it fills from the front is perfect for this senior. Very easy to use, and makes pretty good coffee.

Sean: 6 month update: Still working great, while making ~3 brews of coffee a day, every day!

I purchased this after a Mr. Coffee machine died after less than 1 year of ownership.

Pros:
Auto shut off
compact size
easy fill water lid
Well engineered removable coffee basket (pulls right off a strong hinge for emptying - genius)
Coffee basket can actually be filled with grinds for 5 cups (max pot size) without overflowing
No leakage when pouring from pot
inexpensive

Cons:
None!

Highly recommended.

Anonymous: This is a terrible coffee maker.

It always leaks a little water down the sides of the pot onto the burner while it's making coffee, I assume because where the coffee comes out of the machine is not perfectly lined up with where it enters the pot, even though I have the pot in place just like anyone would. Then when it's done, even if I wait about 5 minutes to make sure there are no more drips, as soon as I take away the pot to serve the coffee, it starts dribbling water again onto the burner and counter.

Another problem is the pot is barely big enough for 5 cups. 5 cups puts the water almost at the overflow top of the pot. Most 5 cup coffee makers have a lot of extra room at the top.

Another problem: Every time I make a full 5 cups, the grounds in the paper filter are overflowed into the plastic of the machine. It especially does this if I set it on "Bold".

Another problem: The little display is impossible to see without a flashlight, and too small for anyone without perfect vision. And if it's unplugged or loses power for a fraction of a second, the time and programming go back to "zero". Completely worthless.
