SM Housel: We've been using a percolator for coffee for 20+ years, so my review is in light of only using percolators, not a comparison between perc and drip. Clearly, we prefer perc. Our last 2 percolators were from the same company, since our first one lasted a LONG time! The 2nd one didn't last nearly as long, so we decided to try a different brand. First, the things I like: it makes a good cup of coffee; it's kind of fun to see the water bubble up into the clear top and watch it brew into coffee; it has a light to indicate when it's on and a blue one on front to indicate when it's finished brewing; I like the clear window that shows how many cups are in the pot, too;and it has an "old fashioned" look to it, which we like. Now, things I don't like (over my old one): it's big and clunky, heavier than my old one; it takes longer to brew than my old one (yes, the same number of cups); the bottom really grips the countertop - some people might like this and it comes in handy if I have to carry it on a tray, but I tend to slide things on my countertop and this doesn't slide at.all.; it claims to 'stay hot' even after it's unplugged, which I thought was the reason for the big bottom and...

Amazon Customer: The media could not be loaded. My vintage Faberware percolator that I had purchased at an estate sale about five years ago finally burned out and it was time to look for a new one. I hadn't been to many yard sales or estate sales this year because of the covid so I hadn't had a opportunity to try and replace it with another vintage perculator. After pouring over so many reviews of different percolators I was depressed to say the least. The brands I normally lean to, the reviews were either not current or not very good at all. I was also looking for a smaller percolator because I knew I had been pouring a lot of coffee down the drain. I had seen this percolator from Gastrorag and although I was not familiar with the brand the reviews were decent so I decided to give it a try. I've had it now for a few weeks and I am in love! It did take about a week for me to adjust the right amount of coffee and for the pot to "season"like a good old cast iron frying pan...Anyone who's used to percolators will know what I mean. I grew up with them and as a young girl I remember waking up to the smell of coffee throughout the house.
But let's talk about this awesome little appliance! As...

Croonatune: Mom let me have her GE Percolator years ago, after my Farberware percolator lasted < year. It was sitting in her basement, and is a good 50 years old (used collectively, probably 20 of those years). Last week I realized the plastic housing for the electric cable was crumbling. I hated letting that coffeepot go; I remember as a child, waking up dark winter mornings and hearing the perk and smelling the coffee (been drinking the stuff since I was 10).
I chose this model because 1) I wanted a glass bulb, not a black plastic fob at the top of the lid. I love the sight and sound of the coffee perking. 2) I like the "pour" of a longer, lower placed spout.
All parts can wash in the dishwasher except for the pot because of its electrical components. Frankly, I just rinse everything with hot water - hold the pot sideways and use the sprayer until it runs clear.
The filter basket has larger holes that will allow finer grinds to fall through. Because of cholesterol issues, I cut leftover drip filters to fit the bottom of the basket anyway, so now I have two reasons to keep this up. Regular drip grinds are not a problem.
I've been through several drip coffeemakers over the...

HJJ: Waited a long time for this coffee maker to be available….and worth the wait! The shape is perfect for pouring. It perks quickly and has a handle that is very comfortable to lift. There is no brew strength control so use extra coffee if you want your coffee strong. The missing brew control and temperature of the coffee are the only drawbacks. Coffee comes out hot but not steamy hot. Use a paper filter or you will have grounds on the bottom of your pot. All is forgiven however when I look at that wake up RED pot!
