Jonathans WorldJonathans World: The content is clear, accurate, and tells a story that must be told! It both satisfies and generates curiosity. Get the book, don’t waste time with the KINDLE version. The controls are limited, and the text controls are nonexistent, making it impossible to actually read. (See screenshots)
I love this author and this book, but am disappointed in Amazon’s Kindle version.

Shelly122812: I have bought a few books from this series and love the fact that they have an African American book that was written by an African American author and illustrator by one as well! African American history books for children are scarce enough as it is and many depict a whitewashed view (for example, in one book written on Juneteenth, my daughter asked why all the slaves were smiling and appeared so happy as they were working, since they were slaves? Why, indeed???). This book, while of course being appropriate for children and not describing the most egregious acts of violence against AAs, does make it known that not everything was rainbows and unicorns and mentions massacres, the Scottsboro Boys, etc. James Baldwin, who is often omitted, even got a mention! So, definitely a great introduction to AA history!

hubbswifey: If you or your child are new to exploring Black history or wanting to learn more, this would be a great starting book for you to have. It highlights notable Black people, their work, contributions in different areas (music, science, lit, activism, etc.) in very small blurbs. The graphics are complimentary to the information presented. It does touch on BLM and some of the deaths that sparked it as well, such as Tamir Rice. For children who already have other books about Black history, such as the Little Leaders or similar titles, or know some about the history, this will not really add much to it. For those just introducing it, trying to expand past Civil-Rights era or just slavery, or wanting a place to start in different areas this is fantastic. It was recommended by many for a book for a program for homeschoolers, which is may be useful only if they do not know anything beyond Martin or Rosa.

nuyelle: Love this!! SO much great information about African American history! The illustrations are beautiful and makes you *want* to read the book. Obviously, this is not an in-depth history book. This is a wonderful book but there's still a lot to discuss. We plan to use it as a jumping off point to do a deep dive (some of which I'm sure will reveal inconsistencies and uncover information not covered in this book). This is a great start though!

Wanda Russell: I purchased this for my great niece and nephew who are bi-racial and in grade school. We ALL need to know more about people in history to help us know we can do great things also. I read the book first and was thrilled to know what Afro Americans have done for all of us. I think they will enjoy it as an Easter gift. Their single Mom does not allow them to eat candy so I am thrilled to give them books.
