Maria: I bought this on impulse, and not until I began reading did I realize this diet would require substituting so many healthy ingredients with others, doing away with many foods I consider staples of a balanced diet. I personally learned the hard way, years ago that, for example, substituting cow's milk with almond and oat milk and using raw cacao instead of cocoa is fraught with hidden dangers. There are SO many food myths out there, and the more "indigenous" the ingredient the more the beneficial myths around it abound. This book wants me to use Agave Syrup, but the fact is Agave Syrup is much higher in fructose than sugar. Once upon a time, I devoured healthy smoothie recipe cookbooks based on supposedly healthier substitutions which led to my developing some serious digestive issues. What saved me was going on a Low FODMAP Diet, the restriction of all fermentable carbohydrates, for a while in order to recover.
Dr. Sebi requires "patients to eat natural grains, fresh fruits, and veggies, and to refrain from animal-sourced food. The diet is naturally low in protein, so Dr. Sebi's supplements are important to keep up protein intake." I happen to be a person who cannot...

RichB.: I really liked the simpleness of this cookbook, I also liked the nutritional information this makes it easier if you are in a diet. I know the book does have some pictures but I would have liked it if every recipe or mostly every recipe had a picture with it to have some sort of reference.

O. Barnack: This is a cookbook that consists mostly of its 208 recipes, excepting Introduction and first chapter, which describes what the Sebi diet is and how it works according to its creator. It is well written and edited, and the recipes have good color photos of each recipe’s results. If you know little or nothing about its healthfulness and safety, be aware that expert opinions vary, so it’s wise to do research before you try it. The diet description in the Introduction summarizes the diet in terms of vegan in nature but a stricter dietary plan, and supplements to detoxify body and restore alkalinity. It also discusses possible advantages and disadvantages. Each recipe is described with a name, color photo, prep time, cooking time, serving time, ingredients, directions, and nutrition in grams of calories, fat, carbs, and protein. The recipes are given in chapters 2-9, grouped together by category: salads (recipes 1-15); desserts and snacks (16-30; soup, stews, and sauce (31-40); vegetables (41-70; grains and main dishes (71-108); smoothies, juice, and parfaits (109-178); sea moss recipes (179-198); and herbal tea recipes (199-208).
