Jim M.: A well illustrated guide covering wild plants and mushrooms. It also includes a section on activities (processing and tasting) and a section of interesting (unusual) recipes.

Laibey: This book has a lot but I was surprised it doesn't have the most basic foraging item: WILD ONIONS! If it had that, it would be 5 stars.

hippiescout: I waited for this book's release since I heard it was being written. I have the background of being a Scout, and also a strong interest in foraging and wild edibles. This book covers the Midwest like no other book I've found. It is dead center on my geographical area and therefore incredibly relevant to what I'm looking for.
The plant ID section could stand on it's own as a great pocket guide, but Mike takes it a step further by adding his decades of experience in preparing the wild edibles - and not only on his own, but also teaching others (including young kids!) to identify and prepare their hauls.
Krebill also takes a scientific approach to the cooking process - something that is left out of many recipe books and only found in places like "America's Test Kitchen". The guesswork is gone because he's perfected his method and included tips from his other colleagues.
You are guaranteed to have a safe, fun, and successful forage if you buy this book.

Ronald C. Wolfe: This book is concise and written for all ages, even us old scouts that still venture into the woods to hike, camp, forage, or paddle. This is the Best
wild edibles guidebook published, for it is exceptionally well written and the color photographs help discern the edible foods from the look-alikes, possible toxic plants. Wild mushroom identification has always been challenging for me, not any more, for Mike Krebill has now erased my doubt and has educated me in harvesting these wonderful morsels safely. Another plus is that the Guide is compact, easy to slip into any backpack or camping gear when venturing into the woods and the price is super reasonable. I highly recommend this Scout's Guide to anyone who enjoys the
outdoors, young or old, for it is a wonderful resource and reference guide to always have on hand. Bon appetite and Thanks Mike for writing this Guidebook.

Merriwether, Foraging Texas: Remember when the boy scout handbook had a section on wild edible plants? How are kids supposed to really bond with and love nature if all they can do is look but not touch/smell/taste it? Thankfully, Mr. Krebill has given excellent guidance on bringing kids back into the wild!
This is the best book to introduce scouts, American Heritage Girls, church youth groups, homeschoolers, and Junior Woodchucks to the wonderful world of wild edibles. This pocket guide covers 40 easy to find, easy to recognize, easy to prepare plants that will help your kids appreciate nature with more than just their eyes. We're talking full immersion! Along with plants and recipes it's also sprinkled with fun challenges to get the kids excited and intrigued.
