omahajunebug: Cuisinart makes the absolute best burr-type grinder and brew coffeemaker. Our old grind and brew gave us many great years of fantastic coffee. I was delighted to see they still have a grind and brew model that uses the burr type grinder. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for several hours.

CDNav8r: Cusinart took their previous model of this coffee maker and made it better! The burr grinder is critical for great tasting coffee and now it’s self cleaning! Brilliant!
This is my third Cusinart grind and brew coffee maker and they keep making them better. It’s used daily and I get about 12 to 15 years out of a unit. That’s pretty reasonable considering so many products are junk these days.
Highly recommended!

Matt: I'm not as much of a coffee aficionado as other people, so the coffee maker itself is good for me.

I can use either ground coffee or whole beans, and the adjustments work well enough for my needs. The coffee maker seems well built and good quality, although time will tell on this.

However, the thermal carafe it came with is terrible. It spills nearly every single time no matter how slow and careful I pour it. It got to be so annoying I started taking the top off every time I pour with it. This is disappointing and an extra cost since I now have to get a replacement carafe.

Marcos Zarate: La cafetera es muy delicada con las cantidades y porciones qué hay que colocar, pero el sabor del café recién molido es inigualable. Producto caro pero vale la pena

Jane Paul: I loved this coffee maker at my cottage all summer. Bought a second one for home and ditched a different brand of bean to brew maker that never worked as well. Flavour is always perfect.

RockyTechRockyTech: This review is for the 10-cup DGB-850 with Thermal Carafe (stainless steel).

After using this coffee maker for over 10 weeks, we are quite happy with it overall (after learning a few lessons). Perhaps this is an updated version of the model, but we have not had any of the issues some reviews mention, like problems cleaning the grinder burrs. In fact, this version does not even have user-access to the grinder parts, based on the videos and descriptions from others with problems. This model advertises that the grinder assembly auto-rinses all the grinds from the grinder - there is no disassembly to get to the grinder itself, and it appears to work fine without access. All we do to clean it after each use is rinse out the permanent filter itself (or toss the paper filter), and wipe moisture from the holder and the housing above the coffee carafe platform.

PROS:
* Coffee tastes very good - grind/strength controls allows pretty good control over desired taste, by adjusting the amount of water used with each grind range (see my grind testing chart image, and table below). My wife likes coffee a bit weaker, so we use 7-8 cups of water with a 6-cup Grind, for instance,...

megan braga: 5 stars: Flavor. Makes *excellent* tasting coffee
2 stars: Brew settings. I tried both the medium and strong and could tell NO difference between them. I also use a measured amount of cream in my coffee, and the fact that there was no color difference confirmed the taste lack of difference.
2 stars: Inability to select less than 4 cups to make. I get around this by only pouring in the desired amount of water.
1 star: Grounds in coffee. Some design flaw allows a small amount of grounds to always occur in the pot.
1 star: Ease of pouring water in. Narrow, difficult to open one-handed, located in rear so you have to move the machine.
1 star: Tons of crevices and crannies. If you don't leave the water reservoir open it will never dry and, ultimately, you may end up with mildew or mold.

So this is my second Cuisinart Grind & Brew machine. Last one was 8 years ago. This one is an improvement because (so far), there's been no water overflow while brewing, which happened occasionally with the prior one. Would I get another? Well, I *love* the aspect of not having to use a separate machine to grind my beans (I'm a purist and won't use pre-ground). But there are...

Nicholas Boyd: I'm assuming I have a bad unit. It grinds just fine but won't do any more than that. Water will not flow through it no matter what I do. I tried using the grinder and then not using the grinder. I tried running it with 4 cups of water then again with 10 cups of water.

Update:
I ordered a new unit and this one does brew. However, the grind control is useless. The only success I can get with it, is to fill it up with exactly 10 cups of water and have it on 10 cups for grind. If I have 10 cups of water in it and want to make 4 cups of coffee, it grinds 4 cups of beans but brews the full 10 cups. I also just tried grinding 6 cups with 6 cups of water and set on grind 6 cups. It ground very fast. Felt too fast to have ground an entire 6 cups worth of beans. It brewed the entire 6 cups but was extremely watery so it didn't grind enough beans.

Not sure how everyone else is having success with this and I've now had 2 bad units.
