rOmP: I just got around to inspecting this item, and it slips out of the sheath incredibly easily. I realized that it was not "clicking" all the way in. Additional "force" will not push it in or set it. I took a rubber mallet and an anvil to it, and it still hasn't clicked in. Honestly, I'm not sure that it should take so much effort to make this knife sit safely in its sheath anyway. The "old" cold steel had very tight tolerances for these type of things, and I've never had an issue with them not clicking into their sheaths... So, benefit of the doubt says, these are likely just factory seconds, being marketed as factory firsts. I can't really complain - as I'm buying these for 35 bones.
I like this knife, just can't safely carry it (and use it) in any way. Trust me, you do not want one of these slipping out of its sheath and floating around freely in your clothes.
I don't know if I should return it and get another - or try to make this work.
Here is the conundrum. Some time ago, I bought the Coldsteel Taipan in Sanmai. It was gorgeous. Only... the tip was completely misaligned. I exchanged it for another. The tip was still improperly ground (and they didn't just ship me the...

Bill Muad'Dib: The actual knife seems pretty sweet so far but it is mislabeled on amazon. While there is a silver model of this knife, this is certainly not it. Dark grey or blue grey. More like the display picture. I suspect the silver selection has been erroneously mislabeled as such.
Aside from the knife being a totally different colour then expected, first impressions are all good beyond that. Solid steal. Sharp. Sheath design works good. The other reviewer who stabbed himself (lol) must have not put inserted the knife into the sheath (or his was defective). You need to insert it until it clicks passed the plastic clips. There is no way this thing is coming out by itself. Requires about 6 pounds of direct pressure in the right direction to make it release.

Tomi: Disclaimer: first impression
I like the design of the knife so. The blade is 5" while the handle is 4" and is really lightweight. The overall size of this knife is really good and it's not too small either; keep in mind that the handle length is 4" for those with big hands. I personally like the blade/handle proportion on this knife as I never really like how knife designers make the handle length longer than the blade length. I also like the sheath because it's some kind of really plastic that does not seem to dull the edge so far. What I really like about this one though is the clip it comes with. This clip comes with this sort of buckle feature where it's like one you clip this on to something. It also has this feature where you then snap some kind of buckle shut where by doing so will really help retain the clip that's feature on to the sheath so slipping out is pretty much impossible; unless you plan on disposing your pants, jacket or boots to the trash bin as this feature creates that much more retention.
The downside to this is that once you do have, that extra feature on the clip of the sheath is really hard to work with. But once you break into it a bit, it...

robin spindler: Daggers are typically made to be sold, not used. But this one is made to be what a dagger was designed to be, and used the way a dagger is meant to be used. This makes it a good backup weapon for those who can legally carry lethal force.
Given current technology it is not possible to have a knife that holds a good edge, is not brittle, and is stain resistant. The best material for a knife blade is steel; anything mixed with the steel to make it stain resistant makes it either brittle, and therefore prone to breaking under hard use, or soft enough that it doesn't hold a good edge. This knife, as with many Cold Steel knives, is made out of pure steel.
There are good stainless steel blades, if you want to spend the money on them, but even the best stainless is inferior to pure steel when it comes to a good combination of toughness and edge-holding ability, and this applies especially to a dagger.
The downside is that pure steel can rust. But remember that men carried and used knives long before stainless was even available. Vikings carried knives, swords, and axes made out of pure steel in open boats over salt water, which is very corrosive, and their weapons...
