Sabrina: A friend first told me about 'swampcoolers.' I had a hard time figuring what it could or couldn't do. So for those shopping, it is NOT an air conditioner. An air conditioner cools the entire room. This device concentrates cool air to a specific area. I needed it to help keep my elder parent, whom I am primary caregiver for, cool on 90+ dry heat days. It worked great for this! I would consider getting another. The temperature drop could be 10-15 degrees. Just what we needed. But you should know it doesn't cool an entire, standard size bedroom. Maybe a smaller junior bedroom? And it doesn't cool to a specific temperature, like an air conditioner, or get frigid cold. I would say it gets comfortable. Also, it has a container that you add water to. This can get a little tiresome, but it would not stop me from buying again. Fyi, Note: adding small, reusable, ice packs (like for lunch boxes or coolers when camping) are helpful in dropping the temp more if needed. Anyway I would have given this a 5 star except the frequency of the tv remote seems to be the same frequency as the device! I haven't had that happen before. Will contact the manufacturer to see what can be done. And my mom now...

Josecito's Girl: This is one of these "please be realistic" reviews. We live in inner city Los Angeles where this week alone the temp was 110°! And of course, dry and polluted ("migraine weather"). In our Living room/bedroom loft floor plan, we have an old 8,000 BTU one-hose portable a/c bought for $800 in 1997 (!!). Probably not energy efficient...but not in a land fill. I mention this because those older ones have the catchment bucket for the condensation that one empties about every 8 hours the unit runs. Why am I mentioning this? Read on... In conjunction with this a/c, we run two floor fans to really push the cold air all over the space. With the hotter temps (and unsleepable nights), this year we needed more. We didn't have any other appropriate windows to install a second portable a/c, and plus, were worried about the power usage. So we sought a swamp cooler, and saw this. Obviously it's new on the market, but at the time we considered it there were about 5 reviews up that made us take a chance.

Keep in mind, for US, this is a "supplement," not the sole and full megillah. Yes, as the other reviewers noted, the instruction booklet mentions "ice packs" that DO NOT come with it. All...

Ernst W. Mayer: Took delivery of this a week ago - after spending 2 hours unboxing and folding the large Amazon shipping box and then the box housing the actual item, stowing the various foam pieces, unbagging the cooler, cutting the plastic shrink-wrap around the 2 AAA batteries for the cheap little remote, figuring out to to pop off the back plate of the cheap little remote because the cheap little remote lacks a proper battery-compartment cover plate, inserting the batteries into the cheap little remote, reading the instructions for the cooler, filling the water tank, finding the tricky hidden little piece of packing foam which was keeping the water tank from sliding in all the way, at last I was ready to try the thing out. Turned on, first played with the fan settings, then touched the "Cool" button. Heard a satisfying bubbling noise from the water pump, within about a minute started to feel cooler air coming off the water-evaporator panel. Aaah, refreshment ... then the lights on the control panel went off. Hmmmm ... at first I thought it might be some kind of power-saving feature, because the fan remained on, but then I noticed that the air no longer felt cool. Re-touched the panel, yep,...
