Albet: Had the old model for many years. This one is a little lighter, not quite as robust, but works like charm .nice straight grass lines as before.

M. Smith: First off, there is no string trimmer here, this is an edger and a trencher only and it does not use string.

It does use a strong steel blade, and it is merciless. If you let it get off track...well that grass will grow back at some point - LOL.

You can't really run this from the grass-side. I have decorative bricks, which aren't wide enough for this edger, so I tried edging with the edger rolling on the grass. That didn't work well, so I'll use my string trimmer for that part from now on.

Also, both my front and back lawns are shaped all fancy, and this edger isn't at its best when you're making turns and such.

Now, tracking along the sidewalk or the driveway, this edger makes short work out of it. I didn't realize how much my lawn had overgrown my concrete. I had to get a shovel and scrape up the part this edger had separated for me. Looks a lot better now!

donna: We needed a new edger to edge our lawn. The string ones just don't do a good enough job. This one works well, but I find that I have to bend over to use it. The angle of the handle pole coming from the edger is low. I am 5'8" and it's not easy to use standing straight.
You also have to be careful because when you stop to move to another area, the blade keeps spinning for about 10 seconds and it will hit the cement as you're moving to another area. I have learned to wait until it stops spinning so that I won't ruin the blade.

DeeDeeS: We use this to trim a neat line around our gravel driveway. DO NOT DO THIS when children or pets are around because pebbles go flying everywhere - you could break a window. We built a shield for it and now we don't have that problem. If you are using it to tidy a garden bed or cement/asphalt driveway, it is ideal - powerful and accurate and easy to use. Wish it came with a shield.

JM: 3 stars - because packing was ok, product seem good and sturdy, functionality not so much.
I had very high hopes for this product to use in my small but curvy garden beds. saw a video that caution this was not ideal for curvy flower beds. wished I saw the video before I purchase it. It was packaged ok. The box was ripped open on one side but the item looked new and in solid condition. I tried doing a test run without using on my lawn and see there would be difficulty for my small garden curvy garden beds.

I was also very disappointed that i was charged a $30.00 shipping fee. however I see no benefit in keeping a product would not meet the purpose i purchase it for so return it with some regret and disappointment.

Henry Dupuis: I owned an Edge Hog for 15 years that finally gave up. I ordered the same model as I was please with the original, however when I received the new one I discovered that it had gone through some cost- cutting design changes. The main connector tube is far smaller in diameter and less strong. The handle is one piece and now non-adjustable. The guard covering the blade has been removed and now it is completely exposed. Also the little hubcaps are not installed allowing dirt into the wheel hubs. If I could have found another manufacturer that had a more robust product I would have gladly paid more for it.
