The Lutron Maestro Motion Sensor switch is the perfect wall switch for any room in your home. With no neutral required and up to 600 Watts of power, it's a great choice for single-pole and multi-location applications. The MS-OPS5M-AL in almond finish is the best motion-activated wall switch on the market, with customers raving about its easy installation and build quality. Its advanced XCT sensing technology automatically turns lights on and off based on room occupancy, and the light offers up to 900 square feet of coverage, making it perfect for larger rooms like garages and private offices. Plus, its ambient light detection mode prevents lights from turning on when there is enough natural light present.Chris Kaiser: We bought this for our main guest bathroom. I had installed a motion sensor switch controlling the lights in the bathroom a couple of years ago. This motion sensor controls a second switch which activates the exhuast fan with light which requires a larger amperage. I like how this has a wire lead if you need this switch to work from two different locations (like the top or bottom of a stairway). For our application it was only used as a single pole. Mine did not come with paper instructions on how to program the sensitivity, length of time and occupancy modes, but thankfully I searched YouTube for this particular model and found a video on exactly what is was looking for. Now both sets of lights and the exhaust fan turn on when someone enters the room and sensitivity is set high so that it doesn’t shut off while someone is in the shower and they all shut off automatically after they leave. Wish I would’ve installed these when we first bought our house.

Bruce M.: All 3-way switches take a little brain power to work with and connect, do not expect directions to be simple, although all the directions for possible setups are illustrated and communicated. Read and learn from the directions. If you won't read the directions your 3-way switch may be no more. Turn off power when connecting, or you may be no more. It is very responsive, usually under 1 second delay. I've ordered another for my kitchen.

Vincent L.: Can only install in one location in a 3way configuration. Not clear in thr description.

David Hicks: I have 2 of these already installed in the house and wanted to add a third. In this case for an entry foyer where the switch location is far away from the door and I often have my hands full.
1. Be careful which part you order. Lutron makes Occupancy Switches, and Vacancy Switches which look identical but offer different functionality. Occupancy will turn likes ON and OFF, vacancy turns them OFF only. I made the mistake of buying a Vacancy switch the first time and spent a very frustrating afternoon trying to figure out why it didn't work!
2. The installation of this device, especially in a 3-way/4-way configuration is a bit complicated. The switch requires a ground as this is what the electronics draw their power from (according to the instructions you can also use a neutral in the box but I haven't tried this). In a three-way configuration you also have to require the second switch as it won't work properly in the standard wiring configuration. Read *all* instructions and look at the supplemental tech notes Lutron has online before starting to avoid wasting a lot of time.
3. Programming the switch settings is kind of annoying and requires the faceplate be removed to...

nishi: Easy to install. Work great. Lights go on instantly with no noticeable delay after walking into view of the sensor.
I put a small piece of black tape over one edge of the sensor so the switch does not activate when I pass by the edge of its view. This works well so it is possible to customize the sensor's view. I am also pleased that I can set the switch to not activate when there is enough light already (i.e. sunlight), and I can train switch to set the light threshold at which the switch turns on. I set the switch so that it doesn't turn on when there is enough sunlight.
The switch feels like a bit flimsy but once installed it feels fairly similar to low cost decora switches. Now that the switch is programmed and trained I don't tap it very often (almost never) so I have no concern about durability.
Note that both switches require connection to live, neutral and ground. This will not work with old 2-wire wiring that does not include ground at both switches. This switch is designed so that it replaces one 2-way switch. The second 2-way switch is either rewired as a SPST switch or can be replaced with a regular SPST light switch (a not two-way switch). This...

E. Ziegler: To start off, I'm not an electrician, just a DIY kind of person who would rather learn how to install something that to higher someone to charge you a lot of money for something so simple.
This item worked out great in my situation because I was looking for occupancy switch for my laundry room. To give you an idea, the laundry room is approximately 6' x 6' and sits between the garage and the rest of the home. There is a light switch as you enter in from the garage and one on the opposite side of the wall (entrance from the house). I enter my home mainly through the garage door. Some days I have my hands full and it can be hard trying to find/turn on the switch in the laundry room. It's sometimes inconvenient to set the things down and turn on the light. I wanted to be able to open the door, set a foot into the room, have the lights on, and continue walking through. This thing was my solution.
If you aren't knowledgeable on electrical wiring, I would recommend you to do what I did and read up on it. I borrowed a book from my local library that helped me figure out what kind of wiring I was dealing with. If you are curious about the book I used, it was Black &...

M O: *** WARNINGS ***
I AM NOT AN ELECTRICIAN, and I have only minimal DIY experience. We had the need, so I figured out that this could be done from the internet (really). So, don't be intimidated by my lengthy instructions; I just wanted to be thorough so that no one else would have to spend the hours figuring this out that I did. If I could do it, then you probably can, too.
While the instructions that come with the motion sensor switch don't say either way as to whether the switches at both ends of a 3-way installation can BOTH be replaced, the Lutron Maestro Switch with Occupancy/Vacancy Sensor catalog states that "Only one Occupancy sensing switch can be used per multi-location circuit." I suppose that that statement could be read as the listing of a shortcoming, not as a prohibition. However, I don't think that Lutron intends for you to use their sensor switch on both ends of a 3-way installation. Their instructions recommend the MA-AS for multi-location installations, but the MA-AS is not a motion sensor switch. Regardless, it IS possible to use a pair of Lutron MS-OPS5M switches in a 3-way installation by following the instructions below.

Amazon Customer: It works perfectly as described, but I wish there was an option for shorter than 1 min time out.
The installation is not easy for people who don't know much about electricity. I had to do some try and errors.
I would be great if they had an installation instruction video.
