Smokey: As always, a good read in the series.

Spencem: It has been awhile since I read an Alex Delaware (character) book. I picked it up because of the great reviews. I had a hard time getting through the book. For the first 60% of the book I was bored and lost with the mudered characters loosely connected, lots of talk about LA traffic and interaction between Milo and Alex. I could only get through about two chapters at a time and I have been known to read a book in one sitting. I had to go back and reread a few pages when returning because it just was not interesting enough (to me) to retain what was happening when I put it down. The last 40% of the book was interesting and had a twist that I did not see coming. Still, the murderer was just not an interesting character and I kept waiting for another surprise twist…but alas there was not one. Perhaps if I had read more books in the series, I would be more committed to this book. I don’t rule out reading another in the series as I would like to enjoy the series as much as others have.

Patricia Moore: Jonathan Kellerman is one of my favorite authors. I’ve read many of his books. This one does not disappoint although I found myself skimming over all the kids’ lacrosse games as I am not at all interested in sports. Even so, give it a try!

Kindle Customer: Jonathon Kellerman never fails to disappoint. Another great Alex and Milo procedural that has all the classic elements drawing you into L.A. and and it's m
ore quirky inhabitants. And as always, placed in the L.A. road system that takes you criss crossing the streets and boulevards of The City of Dreams.

Martin Ridano: Very interesting psychological novel. Well written with realistic characters and dialogues. You will like the book if you are into exploring what goes into the human mind. The plot is correct. This was my first book of the series and I will surely read some more.

Joan Brooks: He just keeps getting better. CITY OF THE DEAD invites the reader into the world of L A crime. Kellerman doesn’t need to exploit gruesome, gory murder details to engage us, and always allows us to be calmed in his tranquil office/home before facing the ugliness of the streets. Characters are real - flawed but good people. Loved this book.

R.VENKATESH: Easy on the mind. Not too gruesome.
How to treat children and help them face up to the truth was handled well.

Richard B. Schwartz: This has all of the elements of a superb Alex Delaware novel. It has interesting characters and excellent dialogue. It nails the L.A. ethos and is realistic concerning drive-times. It has strong procedural elements and it is more Milo-forward than Robin-forward (always my preference). It involves a great deal of interesting material with regard to human psychology (as one would expect, given JK’s and AD’s backgrounds).
The plot is also strong, but one has the feeling that JK has painted himself into a corner. The basic premise: a pair of over-the-road movers are driving their van through Westwood in the wee hours. They hear a noise and feel a bump, as if they may have hit a deer. It is not a deer, but a naked man, and the circumstances of his head’s collision with the van’s bumper are forensically weird. It is as if the man was thrown into the front of the van. Then a second body is discovered, just up the street—the body of a woman who has been slashed to death, a woman who presents herself as a family relations expert but who has been caught falsifying psychologist’s credentials in the past. How could these two deaths possibly be related?
From there we...
