AcuRite Weather Station Forecaster with Color Display & Temperature Sensor - 02077M

Bob G: This is my 4th Acurite weather device. The other three are still working, some for as long as 12 years. The caveat though is that the outdoor temp/humidity sensors only last for about 4-5 years, even if they are kept protected from the elements. So that's why I now have 4 devices. Instead of just rebuying the sensor, I buy a whole new unit with updated capabilities. Hence this purchase. :)

This unit has some updated capabilities-

Auto time set and a button battery to maintain the time during a power outage with no batteries.

The display has been updated somewhat from the older units but still suffers from limited off-axis visibility. (90 degrees horizontal and 45 degrees vertical). It's designed to be viewed from above the unit so the display begins to fade even when looking at it straight on, and disappears entirely when viewed from 15-20 degrees below the unit.

The information on the display is easy to read and attractively displayed. So many inexpensive weather devices make your head hurt when reading the display.

There's a 14 day learning period to get accurate forecasts so I can't comment on this particular product, but the other Acurite...

Bitterli: After setting up the device, I am invited to a warning label and text that says "INTERFERENCE PRESENT, RELOCATE SENSOR". After moving it around for an hour, I can't seem to get this message to dissapear. I don't know if it will create an issue with the lighting detection. I had the sensor surrounded by trees, signal was still beimg received and it said interference. Not sure what I am, doing wrong.

Jenna Hays: I really enjoy this, but I feel the screen is too small. I wish there was an option for a bigger screen. Maybe there is, but I liked how this was simplified in use.

DaniDani: I love the Acurite weather readers. We got one about 4 years ago as a Christmas present. At first we scoffed at it. But over time it became a part of our lives to be able to quickly see the temp and weather outside, which is especially important on our farm. Unfortunately the model we had was discontinued and the outdoor reader quit working. After researching, the reader wasn’t replaceable for that model anymore. So we bought this one, excited about the barometer and the moon phase for deer hunting.
We had the old one hanging right next to our door and reused the existing screw. Little did I know that if you aren’t looking at this thing from above, you can’t see the numbers! So as a petite 4’10” lady who wants this thing at eye-level like the last one was…it doesn’t work for me. Then on top of that, I wish I had known that this wasn’t flat, it has a bevel to it. Which means you can’t put it properly flat against the wall.
Easy setup, pretty display, very user friendly interface for the settings, which is why I wanted to give it 5 stars. But now I have to step on a stool to see what the temperature is. So it’s gonna get 4. #ShortPeopleProblems.

R Smith: We like to have a convenient thermometer to glance at "What's the temperature, do I need a coat?" "Is it cold in the house today?" This is a replacement for an AcuRite that had graphs for each of the pressure, temp, and humidity. This new one does have the pressure graph, with arrows indicating trends. I do like that it records the max and min temperatures in a 24 hour period (It turned out that the problem with the original unit was a bad outside or remote sender so now I have the best of both units as they both can receive from the same remote.)

HummingbirdHummingbird: I ordered an AcuRite 02077RM from Amazon.ca, but received an Acurite 02077M, and haven't figured out what the difference might be.

Upon opening the box I was very surprised by the fact that I was already seeing colour imagery on an unpowered display. Everything on the above Acurite website and the Amazon page indicates that this weather station has a "color LCD screen", but that claim is true only in the distorted world of deceptive marketing. From photographs on both sites one would never guess that the 02077M does NOT have a colour LCD display according to the conventional definition of "colour LCD" (ie. programmable colour pixels). What it actually has is a very simple, cheap monochrome LCD display behind which they've stuffed a static colour printed image, basically just a postcard. Visually it is painfully obvious, looks really cheesy, and brings the realization that CA$51.99 is grossly overpriced.

Unfortunately fake colour is not the only problem with this display. Normally one is concerned with horizontal viewing angle, but with this display I was struck at how truly terrible the vertical viewing angle is. One might expect that the ideal viewing position would...
