Crosby II: I bought this to assist me in working with one of my therapy clients who is transitioning into adulthood. It has been a tremendous resource so far.

Realtorlady: I felt this book was well written and easily readable, allowing me to understand what Krystal was conveying without a lot of jargon. Her step by step order helped me to see the comparison in my personal life, what contributed/contributes to codepency and then ways to cope and make the changes to become interdependent instead of codependent. I also didn't feel shame reading this thinking there is something inherently wrong with me but more like this is something I can do and not feel ashamed about myself! I felt the book was empowering and an excellent source of knowledge for someone who realizes they are codependent and the different ways to help themselves to heal or for those wanting to learn about the signs about codependent behavior.

Michelle Garb: After struggling in my relationship for months (years?) my best friend insisted I do a few sessions of CODA however the 12 step program does not resonate with me. For this same reason I did not want to read a book that used the same principles.
As I read the first chapter I broke out in tears. I hit almost every example of a co-dependent person. I realized that a large part of my frustration with my relationship is that he is not giving me enough. Of what? I couldn’t explain it. Because, it’s not about what HE gives me, it’s about me feeling full on my own.
This book has been such a great tool to help me understand what I’ve been missing (me) and my responsibility in that happening. Learning to not only create boundaries but also make sure they are respected. And MOST important, not judging myself for not having seen this sooner, done something about it sooner, or letting it happen. I need to focus on RIGHT NOW and be happy that I picked up this book and am learning how to apply the tenets of it and in doing so, making changes so I can be a person that I respect and am proud of.
So…. Is this book going to change your life? No but it will give you...

J. Lomax: This book takes a wonderfully pragmatic, logical, step-by-step approach to moving away from co-dependency and towards interdependency. I've read at least three other books on the subject and this is the best so far; clear and concise, with a positive can-do attitude but realistic. The author, who has experienced co-dependency first hand leads you gently along the path showing the steps to take. The exercises are really good and useful. Now to put it all into practice...

Alex: This book changed my life. I wanted to highlight every other sentence. The author writes things in a very straightforward and easy to understand way. The book doesn’t get bogged down by too many irrelevant client anecdotals, which I personally find unnecessary and distracting at best, or extremely triggering at worst.
I feel like this book has given me the clarity I need to realize what habits of mine actually actually stem from codependency, and to recognize and work on my codependent relationships. There are so many things in my life that I’ve chalked up to different causes, anxiety, depression, adhd, perfectionism, “laziness”, and am slowly realizing that they’re rooted in codependency. Obviously this isn’t the answer to everything, but it sure has given me a lot of perspective.
This book doesn’t do a super deep dive into anything, but that’s actually part of what I liked about it. It didn’t feel overwhelming or hard to read, and things were easy to go back to.
I highly recommend picking this up, even if it’s just to read once and pass along, I bought 3 copies for myself and family/friends!

Alexandra: If you're ready to face (potentially) some hard truths/ memories and heal then this is the one to start you off. It's easy to follow and if you take it seriously and do the exercises properly, it's tough to face some of the things it brings up but ultimately it's rewarding. The clarity I gained and the things I faced in my past were not always pleasant, but so necessary for my recovery. Months of therapy didn't give me what this book managed to and it's great to have some of my issues outlined and identified so that I can begin to properly work them out and break the cycle.

Eli: This really shines a bright light on those who are codependent and what that means. I was honestly surprised at how much of myself was wrapped up in codependent mannerisms. It is a short read and really impactful.
