Kathleen Salomon: The casting on mine was almost flawless. There was evidence of only a minimal amount of grinding. On the other hand, the serrated jaws and handle seemed rather puny fo a 5” vise (much thinner than those on my 4” Wilton). And the swivel mechanism is an absolute joke. The instructions say only a 1/4 turn is necessary to lock and unlock. In reality it’s more like 3/4 to one full turn. There is no central pivot point and the locking levers pull-up on just a cast iron strap that engages the teeth on the underside of the lip of the base. The factory in China is doing their job, but it’s the design team in Holland MI who underperforming. Very sad.

Thomas WorkmanThomas Workman: Im a retired industrial mechanic. I have worked on helicopters, cooling towers, chillers, vehicles, 3 phase electrical and I have pushed a broom.
I could have spent 800 bucks on a wilton, or other popular brand. But I tend to believe its not what you make in life its what you save financially speaking.

In a related post, I made mention that I didnt want a pedestal style vise mount due to limited floor space. So I opted to design and build the wall mount shown. Initially The mount was attached to the 8”block directly. But in an application such as this where pounding and other stresses are expected, I installed a 3/8x8x35 flat steel plate that was already in the shop unused. Then drilled and tapped it to accept the previous reciever mount. This spread the load and vibration over a much larger area. I feel much more confident this design will serve my needs for the rest of my days.

The vise is a nice looking vise for the money. I have not clamped anything yet, but after comparing the yost to the other vises, Im satisfied with my purchase. I just could not justify a wilton for my shop price wise. Hope this helps those on the fence.

Bryan Darrell Moreau: Had my eyes on this vise for a long time and when the price was Wright I jumped on it. Fantastic vise, everything I dreamed of. Easy to setup on work bench if you take your time and know what your doing . I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it to everyone.

William L. Melanson: What I like about the vise, that it was package very well. It is a strong sturdy vise. It has good weight and you can rotate the vise in any direction. I use the vise for wood and metal. It a big help in my hobbies. It was very easy to mount to my work bench.

encantoencanto: It’s not every day that I install a vise. My Dad had one, he installed it, and I used it. But this is the first time I’m installing one myself. Maybe I can help you avoid the mistakes I made. Let me point out that the Yost manual delivered with the 750-DI vise has instructions on how to operate the vise, but only very general information on how to install a vise, and nothing specific regarding the 750-DI.
1. My Yost 750-DI came with a full-size paper template for the mounting hole pattern. The hole location pattern resembles a giant plus sign (+) on the template (see photo 1). But that’s not how you should install it, because if you do it that way, you will not be able to use all the features that this vise has. For example, when you want to invert the jaws of the vise by rotating them, the large jaws will collide with the front mounting bolt if you install the vise as the Yost drawing suggests (see photo 2). The mounting hole pattern needs to resemble a box (not a giant plus sign), with the holes drilled at the corners of the box (see photo 3).
2. Also, the vise needs to be positioned a certain distance back from the edge of the bench. If you move it too far back from...

RobRob: I bought this vise last week, and finally got around to building a mount for it today. I haven't actually used it yet, but I can give you my initial impressions. Overall I'm happy with it at this point, but it does have some flaws.

Design: Out of the box, the first thing I noticed is that this thing is heavy. It's got a lot of gravity to it, and for a vise that's a good thing. That means it's got a lot of metal in it, which means all the castings are thicker and as a result it's probably stronger. In addition, Yost advertises this as 60,000 psi cast iron, which is standard on mid level vises and stronger than the 30,000 psi cast iron that is standard on cheap vises. I have no way of testing which this vise is actually made of, but seeing that it was made in china I have my doubts. The position locking on the rotation of both directions is top-notch. This vise will stay in place when you lock the base rotation and pin the head rotation. The handle on the lead screw is mounted too close to the head, to where my hands (which are not huge, but not small either) were getting caught between the handle and the head while screwing the jaws open/closed. This is a very tall vise,...

Jade Leicht: Great vise very handy and easy to use. Build well. Packaging was good no scratches and arrived right on time.

Chris B: As others have said - the packaging is very robust and protects the vise very well in transit. The vise itself is machined well and operates smoothly with very little play anywhere. The jaws line up perfectly, and are very close to perfectly level. Pipe jaws are floating and heavy duty. It's a great vise!
