Rebecca: I was looking for a fun, quick summer read. I decided on this book based on the title. It was a little heavier a read than I thought it would be.
It took me a while to get into this book. I was able to put it down frequently and wasn’t anxious to get back into the story.
Overall, the story is about climate change and how each of us contributes or can can change the world, one person at a time.
From that perspective, it could almost be considered a fable.

Victoria E. MacMillan: My book club was looking for a light hearted book after reading some real life depressing stories. This book was delightful!

Shera: This was a fast read but a good one too. More and more books are being written with an older person being the central character and I’m enjoying them. The Spoon Stealer and Benediction come to mind too.

Barbie T.: I bought this book by mistake, before I saw that the price was more than I ever pay for my books. These days I buy only discounted or free books from a few sites. I thought about it and decided to keep it because the idea of the story was intriguing. I was right to keep How The Penguins Saved Veronica by Hazel Prior. The most important lesson learned for the reader is that it's never too late to make the changes in your life to find the happiness you so desperately need to be whole again.
This is a story that is preposterous but at the same time very real right down to your soul. A story so strange, moving and leaves a mark that you'll carry with you. It's a lesson not to waste your life for that was what Veronica was doing before she discovered the penguins.
Veronica is 86, walks with a cane and lives in a large house in Scotland that needs repairs with only a daily housekeeper named Eileen. She is unmotivated to live her true life until she decides to confront her past and asks Eileen to use her computer to search to see if she has any relatives.
Veronica finds that she does have a grandson named Patrick. She goes to visit him and is totally dissatisfied with...

Kirsty Smith: I love penguins and so I thought I'd give this a try. Honestly, I didn't expect much given the book cover and description. However, I was absolutely delighted by it (my Dad grew up in Ayrshire and I lived there as a kid so that connection was the first thing I enjoyed). Then the love story and the determination of Veronica to see the penguins made it compelling. I rooted for Veronica to find happiness. I came to actually, maybe, love her if you can love a fictional character.
This book was probably the best one I've read since A Man Called Ove quite some years ago. I can't hardly wait for the sequel to arrive so I can catch up with Veronica, Patrick, Terry and the penguins.
I have read thousands of books over the years (reader's advisory librarian work will make it happen) and have only kept maybe twenty to read again when I need a good book. This book is going into that category. Yes, it was that good. Simply delightful.

Isabel Giusti: Mesmo abordando algumas questões difíceis no livro, a autora o faz de forma muito leve, deixando a experiência de leitura gostosa, com toques de humor na medida.

Splash: An easily read amusing tale of an elderly lady's adventure, and her relationships with penguins and other humans. Laugh out loud at times, touching in others.

Juliana Alves Mota: It's a light reading but that brings interesting topics to reflect such as aging alone and having a purpose in life.
I enjoyed reading this book very much and I recommend it if you are looking for a light, fast and moving read
