Jayne: I am totally shocked at how much sugar and Hugh glycemic foods are recommended. Mango and green grapes for BREAKFAST with absolutely ZERO protein. The macros and the timing of the certain foods is pretty off base. I was really looking forward to this book and very disappointed.

Book User: I bought this book initially for the recipes, which I made 2 of the first day I had it. They were simple and delicious. (Easy Corn Soup, Curried Tofu, Cashew, and Broccoli Stir-Fry). I found this book by searching on google for tofu recipes for liver health and came across the Garlicky Tofu recipe featured in TODAY. I made that first, then bought this book.
The first third of the book provides an overview of the fatty liver disease, what it is, and provides examples/anecdotes of individual's discovery, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome. Toward the credibility of the book, there are 14 pages of selected references at the end, though they are not well cited throughout. This book helped me calm down a lot about the potential diagnosis of someone I care about. It put fatty liver in perspective, and made it something much more treatable and common than the nurse practitioner at the GI's office made it seem.
That being said -
I appreciate the middle 3rd of the book which addresses "where to go from here". Lifestyle change, exercise, etc. However, this is where the trouble started. In the chapter on "Liver Love" The author gave her personal opinion about the ability of...

Amazon Customer: Love it - well explained - but scary when you do have NAFLD and have not been as strict since Covid hit. But an eye opener too! It’s a silent killer.

Paleo View: This book presented a lot of good information in a very readable way. Only a few small issues. The organization could have been a little better in places, and some redundancies reduced. At also promotes the idea that saturated fats cause heart disease, even though that has been largely debunked in recent years. Often promotes the "Mediterranean Diet" which is an improvement on the SAD (standard American diet) but does not mention the "Nitritarian" regimen of Mark Fuhrman which studies seem to indicate is best. Overall though I recommend the book. I bought it after I found out that after eating a lot of processed and junk food much of my life, I had fatty liver. With the info in this book and others, I believe I can.

Angela: I have NAFLD and I was struggling to find good foods to eat and constantly watching my fat and sugar intake. This book has opened me up to what I can eat and not worry. Some things in the book I was avoiding cause it was fats but now I realize even though you should avoid fats, you can have good fats. This book is just amazing and I think I will have great health since starting to follow it
