Jessica: I've read a few other books of this author and I always find them extremely informative. I was diagnosed pre-diabetic and wanted more information that my doctor wasn't providing so I purchased this book. I was able to finish it within a week. I will say I disagree with some of the approaches and prefer natural supplements over the extreme fasting that the author sometimes suggests but as someone who practiced intermittent fasting for 1.5 years and cured my fatty liver disease, I do see the benefit in some of the practices.
If you want scientific information on what causes diabetes and different ways to approach preventing it or curing it, it's worth the read.

cookielady98329: Bought this book on a recommendation from a family member after my hubs was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease. He'd been type 2 diabetic for at least 12 years, taking medication and trying to manage it that way. His GP never told him how serious his kidneys had gotten until he was denied a heart stent 3 months ago because of the stress the procedure would have placed on his kidneys.
I read this book cover to cover - twice, with hundreds of highlighted passages - and what I took away from it was 1) constant snacking throughout the day (even on "healthy" foods) does our bodies no good, as there is a constant struggle between insulin producing organs and insulin resistant cells, 2) intermittent fasting, done in a reasonable manner, can give your body a chance to "rest" for even a few hours and quiet that constant insulin-insulin resistant battle, and 3) whole, natural foods are what your body needs (duh) and stop overfeeding your cells! You will not die if you skip a snack.
We decided we needed to do something radical to give his kidneys a chance to "rest" and hopefully reset. We decided - together - to clean out the pantry of high-carb, high-sugar, high-sodium, low...

Marion: 10-week Update: In total, I lost 15-lbs. in 10-weeks with a 30-hr. fasting regiment. I’ve read women have a harder time with intermittent fasting (IF) b/c our bodies are built for childbearing. So when we fast for long periods of time, our bodies go into starvation mode and the weight won’t come off (at least it didn’t for me). My A1C result was 9.5 so I’m back on insulin but will try the 16-hr. fasting to see if that makes the difference in weight loss (stop eating at 8pm and next meal would be noon). To add to the lack of weight loss, I went onto the Keto diet and didn’t get the right ratio of fat-protein-carbs (75/20/5). For those wanting to do Keto, please make sure to drink 10-12 glasses of water or you’ll suffer MAJOR constipation and/or daily leg cramps. You'll need to add electrolytes in your water as well - my favorite powder mix is Hydra Surge (dissolves easily and fruit punch taste). For my chocolate cravings, I have a few teaspoonful of Lily’s sugarless chocolate chips (sold at Sprouts, Mollie Stone’s in the baking section). The sugar substitute Erythritol gives a burning sensation on the throat upon eating so stick with liquid Stevia. Cauliflower pizza...
