Barnowl: The book is well written so that it is understandable by non-medically trained people. It is a very interesting and even entertaining read. Everybody should read this book.

J. Rodeck: *Gut* is a good introduction to human food processing with useful information about numerous digestive/elimination cycle ailments. [There’s actually a pabout Parkinson’s - like a symptoms found on Guam due to cycad seeds.] Well-researched and opens up new issues such as the gut/mood connection.
A good editor could have made this effort much better. It too germophobic. We really don’t need to be taught that germs stay on wet sponges or that dishes must not only be washed but rinsed.
Good Sample: Some 80% of the processed foods found on the shelves of modern day American supermarkets contain added sugar.
On the down side is authorial amateurishness:
[cutesy] “When a bad bacterium turns up, it finds them sitting in its favorite spot with satisfied grins on their faces and their handbags on the seat . . . .”
“Personally, I think the ‘better safe than sorry’ approach is appropriate here.”
Reading level: challenging. Anatomical science gets deep for the layman.
