Linds: This was a bigger book that I expected. Good intro to chapter books. My 7.5 year old has been so interested in the titanic and this book is perfect for him. It gives details of the story, but not so much of the “heavy” stuff, like some other books. He has read this multiple times and still loves it.

Stephanie R: We bought this book for the Secret Santa Book Exchange for my son's classmate. His classmate loves to read about the Titanic and had this book as his first choice on his wish list. When I was shopping online, there was this version and then we saw an older version(same title, same author) from a few years ago and we weren't sure which he wanted. So, we bought both versions(they were only like $3.99 each). They are the same text and same illustrations, so if I had to pick one, I would pick the Step Into Reading one because it is more readily available to find and have delivered on time. My son is in 3rd Grade. His classmates read well and the text in this book are a good sized print-not too large and not too small. The size of the paragraphs and wording are spot on in terms of their reading level and doesn't have a lot of difficult-to-decode words in it. I would definitely recommend this book for a kid that is curious about the Titanic and likes to read on their own. We gave him another kids fact book about the Titanic that was $6.99 to go with this one(since the budget was $10) for my son's classmate.

Mike S.: Great kid-friendly description of the Titanic disaster! As long as you're ok with your kid learning about death/disaster yet.
Our kids were a bit disheartened when they saw the picture of a poor family with little kids, and the text mentioned that most of the poor families died. They were a bit sad to hear/see that kids died too.
The only picture that was a bit off-putting for kids, was when it's sinking, and there are silhouettes of people falling from a high height into the water. It just looked a little too real/scary/paints a scarier picture for kids. So on that page, I coloured over the falling people so it looked there were just more dark clouds.
Other than that, it explains the event really well, and is a great book for kids who are interested!
It sparked interest in our kids after reading, and they learned even more about it after, and we watched videos of the underwater wreckage, etc.

mollymom: My six and four year old grandsons were curious about the titan disaster. This was the perfect read. Well written, not gory, just factual, with the upside being new laws to prevent such disasters in the future. Highly recommend.
