Chuck Newton: Just what I needed to lift hvy materials to 2nd Floor in Barn.. No heavy lifting up the stairs. Easy set up to beam in barn or most anywhere the Load can handle it. Make sure you know what your hoist is attached to to handle the load.

Marty B.: I used this chain hoist to remove the engine from my sailboat. It did exactly what I expected. I got the engine out. I have two complaints, First the entire hoist, chain and hooks are SOAKED in oil from the factory. I don't just mean oily, I mean absolutely DRIPPING with oil. It seems excessive. The other disappointment was the quality of the safety latches on the hooks. They are cheap and one was bent to the side. That being said, the chain hoist worked well and was easy to use. It made lifting the engine effortless. Also the hook to hook distance when fully retracted is only about a foot. This is important when working in close quarters. The bottom line, for the price, its a great value! I recommend it!

BruceM: I hung a 4" i beam for a hoist for lifting maybe 1/2 ton max. I thought about a small electric hoist but I'm tired of fairly new electrical appliances breaking lately so I went old school with this chain hoist and couldn't be happier. First job was picking the bed up off my pickup and it worked great! The chain loop does not take much effort to pull plus it lifts/lowers faster than I thought it would. No problem. Looking forward to never having to replace this. Sometimes old school is better nowadays. I think the I beam is about 14' up and the chain lift/lower loop is maybe 10' down so it's perfect.

Nicholas Martin: I got this thing to lift something very heavy in my basement, which has low ceilings. The plan was to hang the hoist from a ceiling joist and then lift the object from about waist level to about head height. The problem was, there is a minimum distance between the load hook and the body of the hoist. In other words, the hoist will not lift something all the way up to the hoist body; the chain at maximum lift is about 18" or more from the body. This limits the amount it can lift something in a situation with limited headroom.

I managed to work around this problem, but it's something to be aware of. Also note that the item comes coated in grease and is sort of awkward to move around. In use, however, it works really well. It's pretty cool being able to lift with so little effort. I believe the force ratio is somewhere around 28:1, and since you're pulling down it's pretty effortless.

Looking forward to testing it out on some tree stumps.

survival man: Received this chain hoist today and put it to use right away to hoist my snow blower up into storage. I also used a few endless loop straps to grab 4 spots on the blower. The chain hoist lifted the snow blower that weighs around 300ish lbs with ease.
Pros.
Ready to use out of the box.
Chain seems of good quality.
Hooks look to be strong.
Cons.
Has a lot of black grease on the chain (easily fixed with a few shop rags and some brake cleaner would recommend wearing disposable gloves when opening for the first time)

Overall i am impressed with the quality and will update my review if anything breaks.

Mark Andrews: I'd never used a chain hoist before, but I am building a wood shop in my garage and I needed to move some very heavy machinery around. This hoist was a life saver. It works very smoothly and lifts the load slowly (which is what you want). A couple of notes to those who haven't used one before. Get some nylon straps (I used my ratcheting tie downs) to create a create a cradle for whatever you are trying to lift, make sure the piece is supported longitudinally and latitudinally .
If you are using a joist (ceiling or roof) to support the chain hoist, get a 2 x 4 just barely longer than the distance between between the floor and the joist. Prop the 2x4 against the joist and use a small sledge hammer to move the bottom of the 2x4 to 90 degrees. This will support the joist while you are using the hoist. You can do serious damage to your roof and you ceiling joists by overloading them. The simple 2 x 4 fix will eliminate that issue.
