James G Houston: We use this for pulling our small RV into the back yard. It works well but sometimes the mechanism for changing direction of the feed gets jammed. It could be labelled too so you don't have to remember the steps, but maybe we're just mechanically challenged.

Bill: I use this to move heavy object, large logs and rocks mostly.
This works very well.

Bruce Bennett: I had a home repair job that required a “come along” and figured I’d rent one from a local tool rental franchise. Upon inquiring about renting a chain pull I was told that they do not rent that item. Though there was no explanation given further research revealed that improper use can be physically hazardous, possibly involving whipsawing cable or chain, sudden load release, etc. The degree of this potential hazard must be high as I’ve never had a problem renting trenching tools, stump grinders, and other tools that have the potential for physical injury if improperly used. So I bought this unit, carefully read and followed the instructions, and successfully completed the repair. Great tool, it does the job, just use with care and in accordance with the instructions .

Brian Donovan: So I bought this for framing homes and other construction related tasks. Large walls sometimes need to be pulled to get them plumb before bracing. This thing works effortlessly for this kind of work. The ratcheting mech is really smooth and the cable is more than long enough to use comfortably, in conjunction with cargo straps or similar. It seems a lot of the geniuses leaving one star reviews are using a 2 ton puller to pull an entire vehicle out of mud or trying to pull a 12 inch stump out of the ground. Yeah, its not going to work very well when you ignore its limitations and demand it works while refusing to cough up the money for a proper winch. Stop blaming the tools on your incompetency. This thing does what it promises and it works well for a $40 tool.

So far I have used it for maybe a quarter of its potential load rating and I get the impression im not even straining the tool in the least. So if you're someone that thinks that a hand winch is something that can pull a stuck car out of the mud (which is difficult for a full sized truck to do) then yeah you're probably looking at the wrong tool. If you understand it's limits and can follow basic...

AK: Item arrived on time and as described. I shopped for an alternative at the big-box stores before finally decided to purchase this one. Would recommend to others.

Brian: This product did exactly what I bought it to do, but it was not the simplest thing to do. For example, the method I needed to use to unwind the cable out has been a real challenge as it feels like you need at least three hands. Plus, if the cable is fully wound in, the tension on the cable requires a lot of force to overcome. This will probably get easier over time, but you would expect a way to just release and pull out the cable without a second party.

The next weak spot is the cable retainer clips. They were ruined in the first use. Again, if you keep tension on the cable, it's probably not needed, but the thin gauge steel got messed up right away.

Other than that, I have no idea if I've come close to the 4,000 lb rating, but I was able to hook up to my tractor and pull down a damaged branch and I have confidence it is strong enough for my needs.

Elizabeth Morrell: For an inexpensive tool it works quite well and is good quality. A bit cumbersome to release the tension but I’d have to say it ensures the safe release of the tension. I completed the job and it did well

Scott Albertine: So, I bought this as a part for a... let's call it a circus bicycle. It's never going to be placed under the full 2 tons it's spec'd for, and that's on purpose, this was the lightest and cheapest puller I could find, since it is a part of the bike and has to be carried along with it. The bolts that hold the hooks on are removable, though some are C-clips while others are actual hex bolts, though the best metalworker I know assures me that they're (at least marked as) high quality bolts.

The thing I didn't expect about it is that the notch-at-a-time let down system the page advertises is operated by the same lever as the regular pulling mode. You flip a spring in the handle (the bright yellow tube in the picture) from one position to another, then you move the lever all the way over to the non-moving hook, then back and forth at that point, each cycle triggering one notch to let down. While this works, and lets you gradually take the strain of whatever you're lowering, it means the handle has to be able to reach the very end of it's swing in that direction to work. Depending on how you're using this thing, there may or may not be enough room to do...
