kat: I love the book and enjoy the recipes [& knowledge]. Even though I have had it since it was first published, I go back to it frequently as a resource. This book is a good investment in ones long term health.

Joachim Reinhold: ... to what ancient teachings tell. It dissolves a lot of ideas by dividing fact from fiction. Although some stuff like potatoes and rice are used, the general idea of low carb / no carb is still visible. As always it is up to ourselves following recommendations blindly or ... allowing our brain to judge by putting a lot of views into account. This book certainly helps. It is easy to read and goes very well with other ideas, like Dr Perlmutter's book. If you look at it as additional information re-shaping all available knowledge into your personal health plan.

Practical Preparedness: Overall, this book is quite informative. I was intrigued by the paleo + Ayurvedic approach. The author does a fine job of providing references throughout the book for further reading. However, if you're into paleo, clean eating, gluten free, etc. then a lot of this book has been covered.
I was let down by the meal plan - hence the lower rating. It's a 14 day plan but the author mentions it's Ayurvedic practice to do for 21 days, no more and no less. Each recipe requires what I would consider specialty ingredients, which is fine for some days but not all. Also, because every recipe is completely different I didn't see the ability to use the same ingredients or leftovers for the next meal/day. When I grocery shop I like to get the biggest bang for my buck and not buy out the whole store.
Like I said, informative book. I did enjoy it until the meal plan. I am still intrigued by the paleovedic idea and will continue to read more on the topic.

DCD: This book is a fantastic read! The author has assembled a great wealth of health information and, in my opinion, some of the most beneficial is the health benefits of spices. Most of us know that eating whole vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds (instead of processed food boxed in a factory) can do an enormous amount of good when it comes to preventing disease and illness, but I had no idea how many health benefits there are contained in common everyday spices. The chapter on healing spices is likely the most valuable 40 pages I have ever read. Everyone can benefit greatly from the knowledge that Dr. Palanisamy is assembled in this book.

howgal: Overall, give it a read. If you have never read a nutritional book before, this should be your first one. If you have read a lot, you will still learn something. I have read quite a lot of nutritional books over the years and I think this is my favorite. The chapter about super foods, how to buy, store and cook them to get the most of your food is worth the price of the book right there. If you are looking for a lot of recipes with detail and pictures, this isn't the book for you. While there are many great aspects to the nutritional information, there are things I would do differently: I wish the recipes would have had side notes as to the amount of omega 3 to 6 ratio, or the amount of protein, how many calories, what dosha they are good for. To have all the great information given without implementing it into the recipes was disappointing. Plus, going through and looking at the recipes I could see errors - the title of the recipe and the ingredients list didn't match up. I did make the egg muffins. Not very good and they took a lot more time to cook than the recipe indicated. I've grown very fond of Well Fed and NomNom spices in food. I will continue to try different recipes -...

SF Bay Shopper: I highly recommend The Paleovedic Diet for anyone seeking practical, cutting edge information and advice to restore or maintain good health. I read a fair amount of current books regarding health, diet, and lifestyle, and I found “The Paleovedic Diet” to be one of the most comprehensive and helpful on a practical basis. The book provides recommendations about how to incorporate healthful foods (under the premise that food is medicine too), supplements, and practices into daily life. It has good, science-based background information throughout the book, but struck the right balance between that kind of research information and what to do with it. (So you are not overwhelmed by scientific data nor feel like you aren’t sure that the information has a medically researched basis.) I found the Ayurvedic concepts discussed interesting and a useful way to think about tailoring diet and lifestyle to better support one's own physical and emotional make-up, but even if you aren't inclined to use an Ayurvedic system, the book is a powerhouse of information.
I learned a lot of practical tips that help me understand and follow a healthier diet and how to better use food as medicine...
