They were always incredibly difficult to clean with lots of interlocking pieces that were difficult to get apart. The stainless steel one had strange clips that never fit right to hold the fountain portion onto the base. This fountain is absolutely amazing! It’s easy to disassemble, easy to clean, and easy to maintain. I read reviews where people complained about the pump burning out. That leads me to believe there is a possibility that the water was allowed to drop too low and thus burned out the pump. That’s the only thing that might be an improvement would be to place a marker somewhere on the central cone, indicating the water level is above the pump. A nice feature, though, they give you a second pump in the package. I’ve been using this several months now with no issues whatsoever. This pump is also very attractive and it’s not ugly like the plastic or stainless steel ones I have had in the past. I highly recommend!

Ceesser: I bought this cat fountain because I wanted an easy to clean unit (the plastic ones get water calcification spots that are nearly uncleanable) that I thought would be more durable. This one could be put in dishwasher if you remove the pump/filter unit but I find it easy to wipe clean in the sink. The downside (besides the higher price), the pump doesn't last and there is no safety shut-off if you miss that it needs refilling. While the manufacturer includes a second pump, I went through both of the included pumps in 3 months. Now I have an expensive non-working fountain. The first pump stopped working after I cleaned the unit, re-assembled and refilled and plugged back in. Second unit stopped working because the water got too low while I was laid up after foot surgery. I found the water needed refilling far more often than my prior plastic fountain which had a smart pump which shutoff if the water level got too low (that unit cost less than half this unit and lasted over a year). The open bowl design seemed to have more water dissipation through the air which would result in the water running low quicker and it attracted gnats/bugs resulting in cleaning more often (at least that...

Rachel Klingberg: I adopted a new kitty last year and he wouldn't touch his water dish no matter where I moved it. Instead he would jump onto the kitchen counter and try to drink from the water filter spigot. It got to the point where I would turn the water on whenever I saw him on the counter, because I didn't want him to be thirsty. So I became a sort of cat water concierge, and of course, he couldn't drink while I was at work or sleeping. I bought him a water fountain, trying to find one that looked like my water filter spigot. He didn't go for it, so I returned it and tried yet another one, which he also rejected. Finally I got this one because I figured a ceramic fountain would taste similar to the filtered water from my ceramic water filter.
I am happy to report that my cat loves this fountain. I am using it with filtered water, but omitting the filter because I want the water to taste the same as what comes out of my sink filter. It is bigger than I would have preferred, because I only have one cat, but it has all the characteristics I was looking for in a pet fountain
1) ceramic with few plastic parts (the pump and filter holder are plastic but the rest is ceramic).
2) not...

Update : should've changed the filter for the first time last week, I'm now cleaning for real the whole thing. The cat still love it, they don't drink from the sink anymore ! I change the water every 4-5 days and clean it once a month

Amazon Customer: Cat pulls at the top volcano causing this loud clanging noise. Also it’s hard to clean you there are so many little spots crevasses that are difficult to clean.

Sr. Iustina: I wanted a ceramic water fountain for my cats as opposed to a plastic one. This is great material but the design doesn’t filter efficiently.

Angie: tip: Assembly I had a duh moment until I found an old review that only gave a subtle hint to my problem. Attach the filter to the lid. Then place the fountain to the filter inside the lid before you put the lid inside the bowl. Otherwise, nothing will flow upward. All the complaints of not enough flow may be a simple as the assembly itself. Love this. Easy to clean. Heavy enough it doesnt get knocked over and nice looking.

Irene A: The media could not be loaded. I had a plastic water fountain before but I think both the material and the noise of the motor were not attractive to my cat. I noticed she was drinking only from a regular ceramic bowl. Now I have two cats and was browsing for a ceramic fountain, and I found this one. It's huge (holds 2 litres) but it's much easier to clean and it's super silent. I noticed my cats prefer to drink from the bottom receptacle rather than from the spout. My male cat sometimes drinks from the bubbling top part. And it came with two spare filters plus a spare motor! I hope it lasts! Very happy with the purchase.
