Halsan: The big advantage of this unit is that it will fit under a counter. This is a huge improvement for sinks that are located far from the building's main water heater. INSTANT hot water! 1/2" male threaded water connections- you can use flex hoses to tie it in. Cord and plug preinstalled- just plug it in. Recommended!

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: This has performed exactly as desired. Basically, instant hot water instead of waiting up to two minutes as it was before. I have had this installed almost exactly one year now and just replaced the anode which is pictured. I pulled it out at six months and cleaned the heating element and removed debris. I would recommend a cleaning every six months and an anode replacement yearly. A mild citric acid and water solution soak really helps clean the heating element and tank. It must be fully disassembled to do the cleaning and that is not difficult but could have been made easier with a couple of design changes but no big deal.

Stephen MarshStephen Marsh: Just bought my second one, first unit died after 9 years of faithful service. When I pulled it and dumped the contents a ton of sediment and rust came out and I realize now I should have been pulling this ever year or ai and flushing like a tankless…I bet if I had it would still work another 9 years….which is why I ordered another of the same. These are really well made but they cant clean themselves.

St. Alban's Church: We got this to replace a Bosch ES-2.5, which had a tendency to short life (we had two before giving up on them) despite eating anode rods completely in the (non-trivial) annual maintenance. It's too soon to say anything about the lifetime of this unit, but it can't be worse.
Where the ES-2.5 recommends maintenance "every year or so" (we found the anode rods consistently gone after a year), the SHC-2.5 recommends a 2-year maintenance interval, and plenty of reviews indicate that will suffice. So already there is a maintenance advantage, but also SHC-2.5 maintenance will be easier, because the SHC-2.5 has a flat back and precise wall mount, making it easy to mount the tank on the wall. And, though we don't expect to replace anode rods as often, it's also a nice (if small) advantage that the anode rod for the SCH-2.5 is less expensive than for the ES-2.5.
Maintenance aside, there are operating advantages that we see immediately:
(1) Current draw is less (11A/1300W vs 13A/1500W), without noticeable difference in heating time.
(2) Something we never would have realized before using it, is the ease of temperature adjustment. You just have to reach into the cabinet...

Steve Geisel: Bought two of these for under my new kitchen sinks...thought it would be great to have hot water on demand but the problem is that these systems give you hot water for like 2 minutes and then the water is cold. What good is that in a kitchen? Recovery time of 18 minutes? Great I get a 1/3 of my sink filled with hot water to wash dishes and cold water to rinse them. This is really false advertising as it is NOT hot water on demand but rather a small tank of hot water then you have to wait almost 20 minutes for some more. Wasted money buying 2 of the 2.5 gallon ones for under both my kitchen sinks and should have instead invested in something more worth while. Hard pass!

Randall Eckerich: This unit works well I have a regular hot water tank in the basement and I put this unit inline on the 2nd floor bathroom so it's get filled with the hot water coming from the basement as it is hooked up on the hot water line only. This way the 2nd floor bathroom has instant hot water.

Daqui: Replaced a 15 year old heater, which sprung a leak. The heater is used as a “buffer” , set a few degrees cooler, which my tankless heater cascades into. The Steibel appears to be better insulated, so much that my wife asked me to lower the temperature. I have since lowered the temperature of both heaters by 5 degrees and the water being used feels like it did previously. Perhaps it will lower my heating costs.

Mike C.: Ive had this water unit in my RV now for a few weeks and am very happy with it. So much so, i bought my sone the 6 gallon unit. They are well made and work great. The installation was easy on both of them. A solid purchase.

conniemae: This product was exactly as advertised but no extras. The only issue was having to buy the drain pipe. Was fairly easy to install. It's been hooked up for about a month now and overall very happy with it.

Dragon Suicida: Probably to early for a good review, but so far so good. Was relatively easy to install if you got some hand skills. Heated water in less than 5 minutes, really hot in about 12 to 15 minutes. Has to set the dial at medium (half way) also had to get a 1 to 5 gpm shower head to have the water last for a full bath. (About 10 to 15 minutes) It looks good if you are not able to hide it under a sink or so. I will come back later for a update, but so far, I am very pleased.
