Anne: I'm quite behind on my Stephanie Plum adventures, but # 18 had to be one of the funniest so far!

unknown: With book and kindle prices getting higher and higher the books need to be better and longer. Have read the rest in this series so I must have liked them but i found this boring, I suppose there are only so many stories.

culturevulture59: I know a lot of readers have begun to criticise the Stephanie Plum franchise and I can see why. I still like them. They're the equivalent of a quick and convenient sugar rush. To suggest that Stephanie is a character who never develops is missing the point. The novels are like cartoons, broad brush and rather comforting. I can demolish these novels in a couple of days. I particularly like Lula, and the relationship between Grandma Mazur and Stephanie's parents. The plots are ridiculous, but if I want a good police procedural or a crime novel I go to other authors.

Amazon Customer: well... we have a vocation in Hawaii and the alleged heroin of these novels SP is sort of caught red handed by Morelli lover no. 1 who turns up to surprise her, about time he figures out she has a lover Ranger, the 2 fight of course no one dies and she as usual is left unscaved by what she does, she uses her type of gun on the 2 of them just to immobilize them and take them to hospital or something like that, a double cowardly act considering she is being smart enough to avoid giving explanations to the 2 of them. then of course we have suspense as by pure chance she is dragged into a semi espionage plot which resolves into nothing as the photo of the alleged killer she finds in her bag turns out to be nothing more than a computer code which magicaly opens cars and other security devices
during the novel we have the usual lamentation of SP between 2 lovers, her constant indecision between Morelli and Ranger which by the way is not love because indecision is not love and her love life keeps on going down when with all the time she might have spent with one or the other she decides she is off man, and the 2 men who are not my definition of 'real men' follow her like dogs, are...

redsonic20: I get it, the whole series is supposed to be a comedy, but "Friends" was like that, too, wasn't it? It seemed to be more of a drama and less reliant on the comedic factors as you really got to the point of caring for the characters. That's how it goes when you dig beneath the surface. I'm guessing Janet got herself some help that was seriously lacking in the last few books before 17 because 17 and 18 have actually improved. HOWEVER, I read the whole book wanting to know what happened in Hawaii and there weren't enough details. I read her synopsis of the trip and my heart ached for both men. You feel for Morelli because she keeps saying how much she doesn't want him to find out about her Vordo issue (that apparently didn't die with 17) in the last book and I can only imagine how crushed he was. Ranger, while I absolutely favor him, seems to be using her more and more for sex (and vise versa) when you could feel through the writing that there was something more there (he hasn't used the word love in such a long, long time). While Stephanie's reaction was to run away. There's only so long she can run away from her problems before you don't care anymore. I truly expected to find some...

AngelosGal: I have a couple or three issues to get off my chest with regard to this book. First, let me say that I enjoyed this book more than I have the last four or five before it. Though, I would have enjoyed it more without another funeral scene or Stephanie's car problems, it was still 3.5 stars for me because I did see some positive change in Stephanie. I liked that she fought back when needed, and was not as timid as she usually is when confronted by unwanted situations . Yes, she came back from Hawaii confused and no closer to a solution regarding her two men, but I also saw her taking the initiative and trying to think of ways to solve some of the problems she was faced with, like ways to bring in her skips, and helping Lula in her delusion about the latest man she thought she was in love with. She was even considering her options on how to get rid of Joyce Barnhardt. Those are all signs of growth. You must admit these books were not written to be thought provoking, they were all written purely for the entertainment. So, those of you who are now rating the books based on which man Stephanie will (or has) pick(ed) need to check your own level of maturity, while you are checking...
