jesica love: Macy was 10 when her mom died. When she is 13, her dad buys a cabin in wine country and she meets Elliott who lives next door. He's the only friend in her life who doesn't treat her as tragic. They fall in love and become each other's first everything. But then, their senior year, something happens and they don't speak for 11 years.
Until they run into each other in a café. Macy is a resident, working with children. Elliott works in the book industry and is writing his first novel. They meet and immediately reconnect even though he has a girlfriend and she has a fiancé. So, feelings...
This one goes back and forth between their present day and their childhood. It was really sweet. But also frustrating because you don't really understand what Macy's problem is until the end. And then I was surprised to find myself crying. It was a really sweet book and an easy weekend read.

kdjackson: This book is so beautiful! Once I started, I didn’t want to stop. When I wasn’t reading it I was thinking about it. Tropes are childhood best friends to lovers, vacation homes, long distance relationships, loss, grief, growing up, second chance. This will be a book I come back to again.

Size 5 Woman: My friend bought a special edition copy at the Steamy Lit conference and it was such a sweet cover, that I decided to impulsively buy this online. It sat in my stack of books to read and then when I finally decided to pick it up I read it cover to cover and then obsessively went down a rabbit hole trying to find the bonus chapters that were in the special edition copy. Yes, so much so, that I downloaded tiktok just to read them. On top of that, this story was so sweet, I spent a ridiculous amount of money (thank goodness a portion goes to a good cause so I felt a little more justified) getting my own copy of the special edition book. One of my few 5 star ratings. Love it!
I'm a big fan of childhood romance that picks up as adults. Macy and Elliot really stole my heart along with the fact that it is based in my hometown of SF with nods to Berkeley and Healdsburg. The book goes back and forth between then and now explains how they grew a deep friendship and love then how a tragic turn of events pulled them apart for a decade only for a chance encounter. The dialogue is so sweet and I love their exchange of favorite words along with their love of reading. My first book from...

Audience: Adult
The authors have a great way of switching from past and present. I felt like I was seeing the characters Macy and Elliott grow from kids to adults! And also that confusing boundary of best friends to lovers. It was captured so well. Ahh this story has my heart 🥹🥺🥹I would love to see it as a movie!

Erin Hbk: I ADORED this book. The jumps between past & present. The connection the main characters had back when they were younger was so lovely to read and then the curiosity they have regarding one another when they meet older is so intriguing. I stayed up reading this book long passed by bedtime but was so worth it! If you like romance, second chance romance then this is a must read for you.

⟡ Synopsis—
Love & Other Words follows Macy’s pov and is told from an alternating past/present timeline. Macy meets her best friend/neighbor (Elliot) when her father buys a vacation home in the countryside of California. Macy & Elliot become inseparable as they spend their time bonding over books. When Macy suddenly stops talking to Elliot for over a decade, we are left wondering what caused her to go silent.
⟡ What to Expect—
⋆ dual timeline (past/present)
⋆ second chance
⋆ friends to lovers
⟡ Thoughts—
I never thought it was possible for my heart to physically hurt while reading a book from beginning to end. This was truly an amazing read. I empathized deeply for each character and loved how the authors developed Macy & Elliot’s friendship into something more. The lessons, quotes, and parallels were so genius. I spent my...

Leticia Sa: How the hell did it take me this long to read this?? 🥹
This book was just 𝘀𝗼 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹! Elliot and Macy’s love was crystal clear through it all and you could feel the passion in every single word! This felt like a hug in the best way possible!
I loved the dual timeline and that it was just the simplest kind of love, with no grand gestures or anything. It felt so real and the characters were so normal and relatable, which made it easy to connect to it!
From the moments they met as teenagers, I was instantly in love with them, and watching them grow up and get to know one another was heartwarming. Their time among the books and the way they interacted with each other was just precious.
This is a slow read, but in my opinion is definitely worth it. I cried more than I expected but I just really connected to the story and I honestly couldn’t have asked for anything more!
