I had the same design, probably by another manufacturer, for years. It finally had to be replaced. I needed another quickly before the cold came and to save money, just picked one with a small cover. Big mistake and cost me more money because I hated it. The seed was constantly clumping because of being wet. Which caused wasted food and time cleaning out the feeder, often. I used it for the season and now that one is in the back of my shed. I purchased this to replace it and never should have tried to save money. This feeder is the best I have found. I hang a platform feeder under it for big birds and my squirrels, it is not squirrel proof. I love it!

I bought a cage bird feeder to keep squirrels & nuisance birds out. Followed the filling instructions. Either one bottom feeder hole is missing something but, the seed pours out of the feeder holes as you are pouring it in. I have a kitchen full of bird seed. An absolute dud.. & I have a major clean up to tackle.
Will you replace this, feeder, or send one of equal value, which will do the job properly.?
Thank you.

[update] These pesky small orange squirrels have managed to climb down the feeder and hang upside down and eat the seeds. I’m going to buy the cone to see if it deters them.
The birds are thoroughly enjoying the seeds and the cats are enjoying watching their TV. 😹

Luc Desjardins: Semble bien conçue. Pour l'instant, les écureuils restent loin.

Kevin in Canada, eh?:
UPDATE: Somebody - maybe a squirrel with time on its hands, and no pressing appointments, or maybe a trash-panda knocked out one of the feeding ports, so when you pour seeds in the top, it just pours out that broken port. The cheap-shit feeder went into the garbage a couple of months ago, and I'll never buy from More Birds again. That thing was so shoddily made, it didn't last a year. My metal bin feeder is 15 years old, and the big plexiglass (or whatever clear plastic that is) tube feeder with the bronze ports, is at least as old and still going strong. This MoreBirds SureFill Squirrel-Proof Bird feeder was a piece of trash that took a brief detour through my yard, before landing in its rightful destination, but not before sucking some bucks out of my wallet. . . undeserved bucks, it turned out. I dropped my rating from 3 stars to as low as it could go. Save your money.

So, I already have one of those big, metal, double-sided bird feeders where there are ports along the two sides and the full-length bars that the birds stand on are (adjustably) spring-loaded, so if anything heavier than a couple of birds lands on the bar it...

This feeder can be ALMOST squirrel proof with some modifications. Conceptually, the feeder should work, and it is very well constructed, with built in metal reinforcements around the bird food holes. But Squirrels quickly figure out on the standard feeder that they can hang upside down by grabbing the suspension wire and eat to their heart’s content with triggering the feeder shut. This is a common flaw with all bird feeders that have a spring “trap” mechanism using gravity to try and keep squirrels from snacking.
Inspired by another review here, and seemingly foiled by various small modifications to the base feeder, I landed on cutting a milk jug in half and putting a slinky on top of the jug. It works pretty well. I would think the pictured setup would work best on a standalone metal hook setup.
This setup doesn’t let the squirrel hang from the feeder anymore - but with some persistence from the squirrel, they can hang perfectly from the supporting branch which the feeder is on (and the branch isn’t a 45 degree angle type of setup) to slightly snack. All things equal, this, this has probably reduced 70-80% of the squirrels eating from...

Amazon Customer: The only thing I didn’t take into consideration was that chipmunks can get into the feeder.

Far too much money for a poorly designed and cheaply made product. It is hard to fill because the top must be unscrewed from a center pole that, if you're not extremely careful, will instead unscrew from the bottom of the bird feeder, making the entire assembly fall apart. This happened to me within a week. Even if you avoid this, the nut at the top AND the cap must be removed completely. Good luck if you lose them. It also has a little metal hanger that won't stand up, so hanging it back up on the long pole hanger which is above my head is a difficult task every time.
My last squirrel proof bird feeder looked like this from the picture was worked entirely differently. It was heavier and better made, the top didn't unscrewed, but instead moved up with a pressure release along the wire cord which was the hanger, so everything stayed stayed together when you filled the feeder. All you had to do was zip up the knob, loosen the top, fill, and zip it all back down again. AND the wire hanger was always upright so hanging it back on a hook above your head was easy.
Would not recommend.

When I first received this feeder, the first thing I thought was how well it was made. The small birds really liked it after they got used to it. The grackles & other larger birds & squirrels CAN reach in at the bottom & get food that has spilled out into the bottom tray. However, it is uncomfortable for the bigger birds to do so, & they do not stay very long. The squirrels will hang upside down sometimes, but they cannot reach that much food since they can only get it from the tray. It doesn't bother me that they can reach some of it. The little birds go inside & although they are initially scared off by a larger bird landing on the outside, they come right back after the larger bird leaves. I have also noticed that when the food inside is mainly depleted, there are many small birds that will go inside & eat the food left, & the larger birds won't fool with it I guess since there's not much left.
This feeder is well made; I believe it will last for several years. It is also easy to fill up with seed. I am very happy with this feeder & very glad I purchased it. I think it helps the small birds more easily get seed,...

AdrienneJ100: This is my second one after the deer finally chewed through the plastic at the bottom of the old one, but it held up for a couple of years and it keeps the squirrels out (unless they do acrobatics from the pole) and the birds love it. Easy to clean inside and out; I use a bottle brush to clean the inside.
I shopped again when I needed to replace it but I came back to this one for being a good size, having a good price and durability.
