Amazon Customer: It's small but roomy! If you want something to hold things like money, rings, little valuable items this would be perfect!

Robert:

Julien: I bought this mostly to keep medicine locked away from children (overkill for such a use, but it gave me an excuse to finally buy a small safe). The quality overall is reasonable (roughly what you'd get from a hotel safe), and the weirdly shaped key would hopefully give an inexperienced lockpicker pause. If you bolt it down correctly in an awkward place, I think it could deter an inexperienced thief from walking off with your valuables. Having said that, I don't think I'd trust it for anything extremely valuable as it is not super thick or heavy. Thinking of it in terms of a mini filling cabinet with a beefed up lock, I think that this is a reasonable option for access control of lower value items without the use of an electronic lock. I'm not blown away by the value or quality for the money, but I'm not disappointed either.

Zaine Johnson: I've seen some reviews saying it would be easy to smash this and I agree. But that's not the point of a $45 safe. Don't be so cheap if you want a safe that's hard to break. Really any safe that isn't hundreds of dollars is easy to break or cut through. The best way to protect your stuff is to hide the safe. A thief can easily get into most safes. This is more to keep valuables secret and/or safe from roommates or family members, who aren't going to destroy the safe.

It's large for under $50 and fits exactly what I need. I went with this one over the electronic keypad ones because of how easy those are to pick. This one comes with a weird key that's harder than average to pick.

Nick779: I bought this safe as a small, out of sight, mountable security option for my pistols. The key only goes in one way, one side has a little nib on it that prevents it from being inserted incorrectly. It takes a maybe 5 minutes of practice to figure out the proper way to insert the key, it has to go in relatively straight.
Other than that, the safe is solidly built for a $40 safe. It has two 1" dead bolts and in internal hinge, door is slightly recessed. It has mount points on the bottom and rear of the unit. I was able to mount the safe using all 4 mounting holes, I do suggest getting some good wall anchors from the hardware store as the plastic ones that come with it are complete junk. I used 100lb drywall anchors and spent around $5 for hardware.

Unit comes with a chunk of thin felt like carpet, which is fine for most needs to cover the bottom.

My only gripe is that the lock unit visually appears a little fragile, but I have not tested this. Also the keys have small bubbles in the chrome finish at the business end of the key. Hasnt affected performance, but time will tell.

AGP5000: For +-$50, you get a good deal on a solid, small steel safe. I keep small $$$, passport, birth certificate, SS card, etc...... in it. It is an excellent safe for an apartment/personal use. Can easily fit any 9mm/pistol + ammo in it as well, fyi. This is NOT a safe if you are looking to hide hi-dollar valuables if worried about theft/fire, etc. If someone gets this safe, it is rather easy to break into. Nor, is it fire rated/protected. Below are a few recommendations to add protection at little/no cost.

I bolted down both through the base & back into the wall. I used screws that are 1/8" larger in diameter then the ones provided for added bite into the substrates. Also added 2" x 4" wood around the entire exposed perimeter (trim at door to ensure the door can open) to keep pry bars away from being able to easily rip the safe out of its spot. The idea: The harder you make it to steal, the less the thief will try to based on time/noise created. You are going to have to rip off a good chunk of my room to get this sucker out!!!!

Oh, and for those that say the keys are an issue to open: Let the key slide in. Do NOT push it in as you try to open the safe. Just let the...

Slam Thundercock: Looking for a small home safe, plumped for this one, slightly more expensive than others, but seemed to have most positive reviews. Item arrived promptly by UPS although wasn't delivered very well, and item was not shipped with outer packaging, so anybody could see what I was getting. The safe itself is fairly sturdy, with a black japanned finish (mine had a chip in one corner, but I wasn't fussed about that), and using a vernier, I measured the door as being 3mm thick, and the walls 1.6mm thick, so not quite as thick as advertised. However my main issue was that I couldn't open the safe at first! The first thing I noticed was that the keyhole in the front plastic insert fascia did not align with the keyhole in the lock, meaning the key went in at a slight angle and did not insert fully, in the end; I had to exert quite a bit of pressure to straighten it and this managed to force the key home fully and I could open the door. I was able to remove the fascia from unscrewing it from inside the door and using a Dremel, opened up the hole in the fascia meaning now the key aligns better once inserted and unlocks ok. But a poor design and the plastic insert is a bit naff; could easily be...

keeneye: I like it ,one star less than 5 because of the keys.Yes the keys ,they're light and not attracted to a magnet. So what are they made of ,I ask you?(myself) .Plastic, aluminum .too light for brass!.I wanted a good mechanical lock, rather than an electronic-battery lock, where most likely I would have used just the easy to defeat bypass keys None of these small safes should be used as a stand alone security, however I mounted it INSIDE a Gun security cabinet..Kind of a safe inside a safe. This should slow a professional burglar by another two minutes .not to speak of the little surprise waiting him/her after opening the (Homak) Steel Gun Cabinet.I took the mechanical lock apart from the inside and I learned that breaking off the front plastic key housing will not affect the lock functionality (I didn't actually break it) .So I mounted this safe with 1/4 bolt thru 5/16 holes provided, after drilling thru the steel Gun cabinet (very tough on my drill) .Inside this small safe I even attached a small battery operated led touch light with Velcro two faces strips, Now I can see the contents ,you need a small light because this thing is pitch black. There is enough room for two handguns and spare...

ALSCOT: I chose this one because of its larger than usual (9.9L) size. It does what it's meant to do, but as other people have posted. the door is only 2mm, thick, not the claimed 4. For a safe, the supplied fixing screws are a bad joke. But £3.50 for a couple of locally sourced serious 8mm rawl anchors into the brick wall behind it and a couple of 8mm carriage bolts through the solid shelf it sits on soon solved that. For what it cost, it's excellent value (I even found it in warehouse deals so got an extra few quid off) and it will protect from the casual sticky fingered visitor. And yes, it takes a 255mm x 185mm x 25mm Notebook ( inserted front to rear diagonally) with plenty space for passport and bits 'n bobs. But 1 off for the shallow door thickness.
