Lauren R.: Purchased this fire safe to keep my documents protected from not only fire but also water as I live in Florida where Hurricanes are very common. It appears that it will do its job WONDERFULLY. It fully seals, very easily. It provides a very tight seal when the lid is closed and appears to be well constructed and sturdy. It is also very heavy which adds to the thought that it would survive in any situation. Lots of room inside for hanging file folders to organize your important papers which I did and there is still plenty more space. I hope that it never has to be put to the test, but it provides me a great deal of peace knowing that should there ever be another disaster, my hard to replace documents and valuables will be safe.

BVR: I have had these safes prior and they have always been excellent. The only difference I see between this one and my last is that the locking mechanism is made out of plastic rather than steel. So I guess it would keep the hones people out but I am not so sure it is all that secure. Of course the real reason I got this safe is because I wanted to keep things safe from FIRE the indiscriminate thief. I also wanted it to be water resistant so that if the fire was battled by the fire department it would be protected some from the water that they would use to put it out.

Ronald Williams: Complaints about this item are pretty lame. This is a simple, quick solution to protecting sensitive stuff rather than just crossing fingers. Push down gently on the lid as you unclip the latch and turn the key….no problem. Big enough for lots of important files, drives, passports, pics, etc. a bit heavy but that’s part of the idea. Set on floor of closet or in a corner of the basement or garage.

Stephen FairchildStephen Fairchild: The lock is basically pointless but I didn't expect much and just needed a larger fire safe.

Overall it's a very hefty and nice safe. My biggest gripe is the handle is the locking mechanism and it's cheap plastic. I know the lock is cheap but it feels like the handle is going to just bust off like some of the other reviews show. Also it seems like the handle will melt off in a fire and let the safe open.

Calgary Shopper: At first I regretted not buying a smaller safe. The lid on this one was hard to close (until I figured out the trick) and this thing is really heavy. Yes it's fireproof (that's the main point, I know) but yeesh it's bulky! I had a smaller model (same brand) in the past and it was easy to stash on a shelf, pick up and move as required, etc. Inexplicably, SentrySafe makes that next size down just a little too small to fit letter-sized documents (we folded/rolled up a few). I wanted a safe big enough for a document or two, not a whole stash of documents and was annoyed I had to choose between something too small or too big.

After a couple weeks, I'm warming up to this big clunky beast now. I've found plenty of important files to put inside it... now that I have such a nice place for them! And I do like being able to fit file folders, not just loose papers. I put my small objects in file folders too so everything is beautifully organized.

I may never have a flood or fire (should hope not!) but I enjoy the peace of mind this gives me. And if nothing else, having a safe for any really important documents (eg. passports, wills for myself and parents, etc)...
