AJ: They are slick. I lock my helmet and jacket to the passengers grabrail. Keeps people from a quick grab and go. You would need good cutters to cut the cable. Smooth mechanism. I'd never be without one now. Handy dandy. Good for locking your motorcycle cover on the front wheel too (my cover has two holes for that) stop theft and keep it from blowing off during over night overnight trips. See how they last.

JD: A lot of people have complained about this product. I received mine and it is fine - a nice little lock. This is a light duty security lock for luggage, prying eyes other items that may "walk away" while not in your site. Yes it's plastic and can break if you force it. It's not entirely intuitive as the mechanisms are a bit different than you'd expect. All you have to do is read the instructions..

Tybriss: I bought this even after reading the reviews and how others were having problems. What I discovered is, if you put the cable back into the locking mechanism with the opening code displaying, then it will pop right back out with hardly and effort. You have to press the side button, insert the cable, release the side button and scramble the numbers. It will NOT open after that. People just push the cable back in without scrambling the numbers and that's when it pops open. It's a damn handy little lock that is quite secure.

Pro:
Very affordable price, very easy to use, allow flexibility of changing combination to whatever I desire. 35" (89cm) length wire (excluding extra cables inside the lock attached to the wheel). I can easily fit 2 people's gear, even 3 perhaps.
-Lot of reviews says retracting wire is dangerous, but guide sheet clearly warns. It's kind of obvious you dont just reel it in. Its like measuring tape, should do it steady and carefully.
Con:
-Case material is plastic (As shown in the picture), I feel if I accidentally dropped it, it may crack overtime. Realistically speaking, it doesnt seem that difficult to break the case.
-Didnt allow me to choose colour when I purchased. Its just random (white / red / blue / green).
Conclusion:
For $15 bucks, and for a casual skier, Im not so worried about thieves actually targeting specifically ME; to go through all the trouble of breaking my lock just to steal my gears... I just want something to lock my ski while I get some meal during break. Its not something I'll let it out overnight, for whatever reason. Again, realistically thinking, thieves would rather steal unlocked skis rather than...

HighFive:
Do not buy this lock.
I purchased 2 of these locks for a European backpacking trip so I could run the cable through the zippers for some security. I received them a few days before leaving and opened and tested them the day I was leaving. I pulled the cable out and that was as long as they lasted. The joint on the lever attached to the lower button broke on both locks upon first use or maybe earlier. I never heard a crack sound or felt it break. I thought the first one may have been defective. The second one broke in the same place but this one wouldn't even retract the cable. These are being returned tomorrow.
Other notes:
The locks came factory sealed in a plastic case that needed to be cut off. The case was like you would expect a thumb drive to arrive in. I dont think they were damaged during shipping but they were damaged upon arrival or with very little effort on the 1st attempt at using them.
The case itself is plastic and the internal parts are plastic as well. I am not sure how much security these locks can offer.
The quality of these are that of a counterfeit lock and I would not be surprised if they were counterfeit. If...

Ironman Bob:
This Master Lock is a winner!
I have multiple bicycles as I raced many years ago. Although through the decades I have had almost every bicycle locking method imaginable (i.e. heavy chains, bar locks, pad-eye keys, etc.), I have found this Master Lock to be the most effective and convenient bicycle lock available today! Experience has taught me that the more massive and cumbersome the locking system, the less likely someone is willing to consistently use it. By being incrediably convenient and compact, I have found myself and others using this Master Lock very regularly for multiple items. I do have a few suggestions for Master Lock in particular to significantly increase this product's presense if they are interested, but the quickest way to improve the 4605D would be to increase the cable length to 4-Feet.
Again, in my humble opinion, I believe the 4605D Master Lock is a winner because of its compact nature, convenience, self-setting combination option as well as its flexibility at effectively securing a wide variety of items!

M. J. Lang:
As a bicycle commuter, I've been using one of these locks to lock my bike for three years now. It is light and highly portable, fitting beautifully in my seat bag or courier bag pocket. It's made of a thick plastic outer shell, resistant to more-than-average banging, but someone with a hammer or heavy bolt cutters could subdue this lock fairly easily. It's been a perfect deterrent (I also use the smaller variation when I travel and when at the gym to lock up my luggage/gym bags/bike helmet). It's not designed for heavy security; you wouldn't use it on your rented storage locker or to chain up your $8000 Italian road bike. It's designed to provide a flexible, lightweight, compact option for locking just about anything to just about anything else. It's particularly good for preventing the "target of opportunity" problem--patient thieves waiting for the right moment to snag whatever is lying around and valuable. Most thefts happen this way, and this lock would eliminate just about all of those.
Contrary to other posts, you cannot "just yank" the cable out of the lock--IF you close the lock correctly. It's a little finicky when locking up, so if you're...
