steven: Use it for my gym pulley system. Doesn't say load but if you pull back the end cap you can inspect how the tie-end is capped off and it is as sturdy as can be. Have loaded 150lbs with no sign of wear/inability to handle load.
Says 3/8 thickness which i believe it is but it is a smidge thinner than the Schlage cables.

ChortlesChortles: Super frustrating. My very first time using this cable my bike was stolen. A thief came along with bolt cutters and made a clean cut and stole my bike. These super thin (less than half an inch) stranded steel cables are extremely easy to cut, as I painfully learned.
This was my very first time using this cable. To be fair, I think I didn't lock my u-lock around the post properly, and this cable was the only thing actually protecting my bike. Normally I lock my u-lock around the frame, but leave the wheels unlocked. I decided to start locking my wheels, so I bought this cable. The very first time I use it, I think I was so busy making sure I looped the cable around the wheels properly that I didn't make sure that the u-lock itself was properly locked to the post. This means the u-lock must have been locked just to my bike frame, and not the post. It was only that way for a couple of hours, but within that time, a professional thief must have noticed that this cable was the only thing protecting the bike, and so he cut the cable and stole my $1000 Norco. It's so frustrating, because I always properly lock my bike, but this one time it wasn't as securely locked as it should...

Steve: Just received this cable today, so I have not yet field tested it. I purchased this to use in conjunction with a U-lock on my mountain bike. The cable feels thick, sturdy, and solid. Well covered/laminated, so it shouldn't cause any scratches on my bike or other surfaces. The package weight stated 1.5 lbs. The cable is a little stiff but I believe it will become a little more flexible over time. Still, it is not difficult to roll up or pack away. My cable is all black, 6 feet long, 10 mm (3/8 in.) thickness. It is long enough to loop through my front wheel, up and through my seat attachment, and then down to my U-lock, with a little length/play left over. Perhaps enough to run through a gear bag or another accessory. The looped ends fit though one another easily. The loops have plenty of room to accommodate the shackle of my U-lock (14 mm). I wouldn't recommend this cable as the sole means of locking up your bike. But used together with a U-lock or another type of lock than can better secure your frame, it should do well in securing your front wheel, seat, and perhaps some accessories while you are away from your bike. Casual thieves looking for a quick and easy getaway will...

Scarecrow Guy: This is a nice and very heavy duty cable. It's a little stiffer than the thinner 1/4" cables out there and it takes up a bit more room in my handlebar bag than I like, but I feel more secure with this thicker cable and how it is perceived by thieves along with the extra effort to thwart it.
I purchased this along with a beefy Master Lock padlock. The two combined look very intimidating. In reality, a motivated thief with a large enough bolt cutter or a cordless grinder with cutting blade could nullify the intimidation factor in an instant. I ALWAYS use this setup combined with a thick-barred long shackle U-Lock to present a more varied and complex security challenge to would-be thieves. I also have a 5' steel-sleeved armored cable that I can add to the mix, though it is heavy and cumbersome to carry. The reality is that the heavy weight of each only allows me to carry only two devices at a time. I try to match the locks/cables with the time and location that it will be locked.
I guess what I'm getting at is that if someone wants your bike bad enough and given the right opportunity and time, then they'll get it. This cable, albeit heavy and intimidating, is just one component...

Rebecca: Make sure you really do want a 6 foot cable. I thought the extra length would be a benefit, but it's more of a hassle. That's not why I docked a star though.
The loops are infuriatingly small. I get that the smaller size may help with deterring thieves better, but they made it just a tad too small. I originally wanted to dock two stars for the inconvenience, along with the thinner than expected cable. However, a thief did try to go at my bike while I was using this cable. The thief went at it in three different spots, along with my u-lock and trying and succeeding on cutting a thinner rail the thief thought my bike was attached to. The thief did mightily screw up the cable and twist it all up, but they were not able to cut through it. I'll need a new cable for sure, but it did its job.

CDP's Onceagain habit of purchasing: This heavy cable will keep almost any means of theft of your personal items from happening. Keeping in mind a determined thief will find a way unless you have unlimited means to stop him. Thus Banks! A torch may cut it or a very large bolt cutter may be able to slice it, but likely these will not be available to the thief, in your truck bed when he looks in. If he is carrying around a 24 inch bolt-cutter, you are had. This cable is long and thick and protected from the elements by a thick vinyl coating, so although steel does rust, in time, you will be afforded many years of protection in this product. I think the claims made by Master Lock that: Recommended use with weather tough padlocks, Street Cuff and mini U-locks will supply virtually impenetrable protection. Two large and convenient loops with rust-resistant sleeves and scratch guards help protect the finish the cable is protecting with it's 3/8-inch diameter heft and a vinyl coating hopefully will prevent any scratching. I really like this product. I would refrain from carrying it around all the time as it is bulky and heavy, but it is good for what ails you, fearing for your possessions security.

Kitty Meowski: I live in the City of Chicago where theft is rampant. Anything not tied down will be gone as soon as you turn your back.
I use this cable to secure the quick release wheels to my bike when parked. It's looped around my bicycle tires and then into my U lock. The length is perfect for this. Haven't lost my wheels yet :-)
So here's the shindig:
If you primarily use only this cable to lock something down, you are fooling yourself. Just know that you could probably cut through it with a good pair of kitchen shears. Cable lock vs. steel cutters = your stuff gone in 5 seconds.
---BUT ---
I call this a "pain-in-the-@$$" level theft deterrent because the average bum isn't going to walk past your bike and want to deal with this, just to get a couple of bike tires or whatever your low-cost goods are.
If you want to secure something, you need to get some serious chain. Probably point some cameras in that direction too. Don't forget the razor wire.
I am on my third cable lock because I foolishly leave these in the basket of my bike for all to take.
I don't think it matters which cable you buy, but this is the best value on amazon.
