RyanRyan: I love this knife. The value compared to cost makes not buying this knife seem absurd. This knife can be used for heavy work like chopping or batoning wood while still being capable of fine cutting work as well. The shape of the handle gives the knife a axe handle feel and it is a great chopper. The blade design makes for true multipurpose use, due to the blades size it can easily be held by the flat of the blade itself to do fine work at the tip. The curve of the blade can be utilized for debarking logs or scraping dried wood for kindling. The belly of the blade is what makes the wood chips fly and when you pick it up it will be obvious. This knife is perfect for long-term or short-term bushcrafting in a mostly stationary location. It arrived sharp as compared to most factory edge knives, that said, I have only ever purchased 2 knives that I did not feel I had to do at least a minimal amount of sharpening work prior to use. I recommend learning how to sharpen a knife as a needed life skill.
My only negative is in regard to the size, though it is perfect in so many ways, it is too large to be a belt carry distance hiking knife. It is more than needed for day hikes or simple...

A. Zacharias: This knife was much bigger and heavier than I expected, which turned out to be a good thing.

This can easily replace a camp hatchet or other brush knife that you might have. It slices and chops through brush, weeds, and small trees with ease. I tested it on a variety of saplings of various thickness and whatever it didn't slice through in one swing it easily finished off with only a couple chops.

Splitting logs was easy, trimming trees, making kindling, any of the tasks you would use a camp hatchet for, this accomplished with little difficulty.

It comes decently sharp and held the edge well. After all the chopping tests I did I cut various types and sizes of rope and it had no problem.

The rubber grip is sized nicely and fits well in the hand, and is tacky enough that I am not afraid of it slipping at all.
The whole thing is thick and bulky and i'm sure will last a long time.

The bulkiness would be my only complaint as this isnt something I would want to carry around all day on my hip or in a pack, however it is absolutely something I would take in to the backwoods and leave in camp, or hunting camp as a cutter and chopper, or trail clearer.

Amazon Customer: I prefer Esee, TOPS, SOG etc. I bought this on a whim, it was inexpensive and had a good looking design. Not everything has to cost 200.00 to be useful. I figured I’d throw it in the gear box of the truck for a back up. Well.... I USE my knives and this knife can handle it! I mean pry with it, chop with it just go to town because this knife is straight up awesome! I own everything from Al Mar, Benchmade, Extrema Ratio, TOPS and my list can keep going and this knife isn’t just a tool box keeper. It holds an edge is super easy to sharpen even with its fat belly.

Pros; thick full tang, sharpens well, holds an edge, great grip, awesome chopper, very affordable, balanced design , fantastic sheath

Cons; it’s heavy ( really heavy )

MacMac: I didn't whip out the tape measure before I ordered this beast. It's frikkin huge. To the point of embarrassment. If I saw a dude roll up with this on his belt I would honestly roll my eyes & think 'poser wannabe' and dismiss them.

That being said, it is a solid friggen knife. Decently sharp out of the package (and well packaged if that matters.) And, it is going into my go bag - this knife is for real, if a tad embarrassing.

I feel guilty not showing a pic or two, so I'm off to take an action shot. BRB.

Back. Guilt assuaged. See pics - 1 thru 3 are batoning or whatever the hell neckbeards call it. Well, truth be told, 3 is a drop point test after the kindling split. 4 is after 10 seconds of feathering (please insert another neckbeard comment of your choosing) Otherwise, what was the point of my guilt?

The effort to require to make kindling with this beast is absolutely minimal. The weight of the knife took care of the splitting and slight pressure with two thumbs took care of the feathering.

Seriously, if I were stuck in the back 40, this thing could get the job done. I'd still prefer a decent axe for the vast majority of tasks, but this...

Werner S: Bei dem Preis von fast 60,- € und der Qualität kann kein anderer Anbieter mithalten.
Als Erstes habe ich die Schärfe überprüft mit Papier schneiden, es ging so, also habe ich es mit einem Keramikstab kurz nachgezogen, da ging es schon besser. Der Hammer, wenn ein Messer scharf aus der Fabrik kommt, bisher war es nur Havalon jetzt auch Schrade, von den deutschen Anbietern bekommt man nur stumpfes Zeug.
Als nächstes raus in den Wald und den Little Ricky ausprobieren. Jetzt taucht das erste Problem auf, wie kommt man im Sommer mit kurzer Hose ungesehen mit dem Klopper in den Wald? Jeder der dich mit dem riesigen Ding sieht, denkt, der hat sie nicht alle, aber selbst fühlst du dich unbesiegbar.
Das zweite Problem durch die Größe ist die Befestigung. Wohin damit am Gürtel? Entweder stört es beim Bücken oder du kannst es nicht mehr zurück in die Scheide stecken, ohne dich zu schneiden. Ein alter Ritter hätte bestimmt Rat gewusst aber so blieb mir nur eine Tasche.
Nachtrag: Wenn man es mit einem Tecklock schräg am Gürtel befestigt wie ein japanisches Schwert, dann gibt es keine Probleme.
Im Wald angekommen habe ich nochmals die Schärfe an einem runden...

OldArcher: As "TheGutsch" wrote, it does, indeed, remind me of my prized ZT301 and ZT303 folders. To me, the blade design, and the very quality of the knife, exude quality, reliability, strength, and utility. I've owned many knives in my sixty-eight years, but this definitely ranks in the Top 10 for me. As a fixed blade knife that could be an EDC, should easier/better methods of carriage present themselves, it would be absolutely lethal. Likewise, as a survival "tool," the SCHF28, Little Ricky, is a tasking viability. Whether chopping wood for shelter or fire, food for dinner, or defense, this knife is more utilitarian than a Bowie or Khukuri. Grip, full tang, choil, jimping, lanyard hole, magnificently designed blade and construction- with sturdy sheath- what's not to love? It's balance belies it's weight, and it puts the lie, to those that think a truly great knife, has to be expensive... Schrade once again, proves that the average Joe, or Jane, doesn't have to hock the house, to get quality gear...

Multitasking blade of masterful design and execution. Proof positive that high quality is affordable. Too bad Amazon only allows Five Stars for excellance...

Gadsdenfan: Nach unzähligen Videos und Rezensionen wollte ich dieses Messer live sehen.
Die Verarbeitung von allen Teilen ist hervorragend:
- großer und sicherer, nicht rutschiger Griff
- scharfe Schneide (schneidet Papier sehr sauber)
- starke Klinge. Der Klingenrücken ist 2 cm nach dem Griff ca. 5 mm stark, danach ca. 2,3 mm bis zur Spitze. In der Mitte der Klinge (also zwischen Fehlschärfe oben und Schneide unten) ist sie durchgehend 5 mm stark.
- rostträger Stahl (weniger Pflege, Öl usw. nötig) und saubere Beschichtung, an der klein Holzdreck oder Ähnliches haftend bleibt.

Nachteile:
- wenig scharfe Kanten für den Feuerstahl
- doch kein "taktisches" Messer (wird von vielen so auf Youtube präsentiert)
- auch keine Mini-Machete, dafür aber ein guter Woodchopper.

FAZIT: es ist zwar nicht das Messer für mich, aber für alle, die so ein Messer mit dieser Form suchen, kann ich den "Little Ricky" - so wird dieses SCHF28 genannt - nur empfehlen.

Schrade baut GUTE Messer zu bezahlbaren Preisen, die - egal was viele behaupten - locker mit den "Superstars" unter den Bushcraft- und Survivalmessern aufnehmen können.

Kevin H.: Pros: Big heafty knife, holds an edge very well through extreme use, almost razor sharp out of box, excellent handle to hand fit no slippage, well balanced, good thrower, great chopper, great control for a large blade for fine work with wood.

Cons: length on hip when trying to sit (made kydex sheath for horizontal draw to fix issue), jimping is too aggressive, the doesn't handle abuse (I missed a couple of time throwing it so got some gouges in the handle scales).

All in all damn good knife. Survival, camping or what I mainly use it for which is work, paid under 50 US for it and so happy. Would like to see handle scale options and sheath mount options for the knife instead of just a vertical draw, but the pros greatly out weigh the cons of this blade. The price is right and the quality is extremely nice. Definitely would recommend to anyone.
