The Schrade SCAXE2 11.8in Stainless Steel Small Axe is the perfect tool for outdoor survival, camping, and everyday tasks. It features a lightweight 6.4 ounce design for easy transport, and a comfortable ergonomic handle for a secure grip. The 3.8in blade is crafted with a glass fiber PA and TPR rubber handle for added durability. For added convenience, the axe comes with a thermoplastic belt sheath that makes it quick and easy to access. Rated as one of the best Camping Axes & Hatchets based on convenience, build quality, giftability, and overall satisfaction, the Schrade SCAXE2 11.8in Stainless Steel Small Axe is the perfect tool for any adventure.CDJ: I generally like this. It's a good size and shape, but I made the mistake of thinking it was a full tang design, but it's not. It's a lightweighted beam structure under the rubber handle, and it didn't take kindly to being thrown and having the handle hit. If you're going to use it for general hatchet purposes, go for it.

SomeoneSomeone: The media could not be loaded. This axe is great for backpacking especially after I sharpened it better and polished the blade. My only complaint is that the blade should have been made with a carbon steel. The steel quality is meh at best. I added hockey tape for visibility and grip for choked up grip.

J Vaughn: I've watched videos, read reviews...pretty much "reviewed" out on selecting a hatchet. I settled on the Schrade SCAXE2 and I am highly pleased. If you want the manufacturer specs, the seller has those posted. As far as the actual specs, here you go. The "usable" handle length is about 9.5". Yes, the handle is longer but, I am referring to the usable portion. The curved blade is 3.75" (straight line measurement from tip to tip). The hammer head is 1.5" x 0.75". The overall "usable" specs make it a decent size to hang from a belt, vest, backpack, etc. It is not bulky or overly heavy (it is a hatchet after all) and after using it to chop up some 2-2.5" branches that had fallen in the yard, I didn't feel like I was swinging a bowling ball around at all. The handle has finger placements built in and is rubber which equals comfort. It also softens a mis-swing a little. Call it recoil padding. :) The rubber handle also prevents slipping. The blade is sharp and nitrite coated. After a few uses, really not a scratch on it other than the blade edge. Clean and oil and I am sure the blade/head will last for many, many years to come. I didn't order it for the fire starter but, it's an added...

JT: Great little axe. Once the coating on the blade is worn off, the fire starter tool in the handle works nicely. Dried leaves and bark pounded w/ the "tenderizer" part of the blade (to make it more fibrous), caught fire very quickly and w/ little effort from the fire starter tool. Seems very comfortable to hold for use. I give it only 4 stars because the first time I used it, I was cutting up smaller pcs of wood for kindling and the blade made contact w/ the loose gravel I was on and chipped the blade :( My fault I guess but was still surprised at how easy that happened. The plastic case is good on my belt but doubt it would stand up to -20 to -30C + temps as we had, last long & miserable winter (apparently going to be the same crap for '14 -'15 winter).

Orlow: The picture makes it look much bigger than it actually is. It's just about exactly 1 foot long, with a 5 1/2 inch long head. The handle is a very strong type of plastic material, and it looks great. The rubber grip gives excellent grip and it very comfortable to hold at the same time. The head is thick, but not too thick and has a nice flat grind on the edge. It comes slightly sharpened, but can be made to have an absolute razor edge, which holds excellently. Even though the blade is stainless steel, it is very strong, and it also has a cool dark grey coating, which stays on well. Due to its decreased size, it does not get in the way anywhere you have it stored. It is rather light compared to most hatchets, but still packs an icredible hit. The kydex sheathe is very durable, and will not rot like leather. It fits the head perfectly and snaps on and off. The snap is a bit hard to open and close at first, but with time gets easier. Lastly, the fire steel. The ferro rod is hidden in the base of the handle, completely out of the way. The rod on it's own is worth atleast $20. This thing is enormous. It is 2 3/4 inches long, and 3/8 inches thick. It is much larger than a usual...

Bill: This is great axe that is intended for a bug out bag. Having the fire starting rod in the handle is a big plus!
