I don't like it... the overall quality is ok... it is very sharp... the grip is very hard and uncomfortable... I haven't used it yet, but I can tell it'll work pretty good, but painfully strenuous work... for the price... I kinda like it 👍

GoodStuff👍: I bought this 5+ years ago and it has served my basic purposes well.
My first purpose was I used it to hack apart a sofa. I lived on the 5th floor of a building without an elevator and didn’t have anyone to help me carry the sofa. This hatchet let me break it apart into pieces so I could carry it down in garbage bags.
Since then, I’ve used it camping and doing odd projects around the house.
The steel seems strong, and I just had it sharpened, and it looks super again.

collmatt: I will agree this hatchet is on the smaller side, but knew that when purchasing. Bought to use for splitting kindling for the Ooni Karu 12 multi-fuel pizza maker (which is amazing!). Used to split logs 2-3" in diameter and 6-12" long, with no problems. I would agree that this is a bit small to do any significant chopping or wood splitting for larger applications but works perfectly for my needs. Plan to bring on future camping trips. Sharp out of the box, seems to hold an edge well, and the plastic sleeve is very slick/functional. Very pleased!

Amazon Customer: I've had a Schrade hunting knife for over 30 years and it's just as good as the day I bought it. With that in mind I looked to Schrade when buying a camp hatchet. The hatchet is great and I'm sure it'll be a key component in camp for many years to come. That being said, the plastic snap on safety cover is poorly made and is presenting itself to be pretty much useless. A thick leather blade cover would have been much better and wouldn't have affected the price much if at all.
I'm getting a shoe maker to make me a custome cover.
Good camping everyone!

Bill: Mine arrived fairly sharp although the bevel was slightly off. Like others have said, the sheath honestly doesn't look like it will take too many openings and closings before the plastic breaks, but it does protect the head and any bag you might toss this in. I love the full tang construction and the compact size of the tool. For a size comparison that most people can imagine, it is around 2 1/4" shorter in length than the Wally World/Coleman hatchets that everybody has seen or owned at one time or another. This hatchet does have a wider cutting surface by about an inch. Weight wise, I think the SCAXE10 feels amazing in your hand, is easy to control and is lighter than the aforementioned camp hatchet. There's plenty enough heft to get the job done without wearing yourself out swinging the thing. You will want to ditch the shoestring lanyard and replace it with paracord, but that's usually a given on these things. I have average sized hands and the grip on the SCAXE10 feels custom made for me. I had my daughter test the grip for all of you lovely ladies out there who might be reading this review and she said she really likes it and I should buy her one. (Imagine that.) While you...

Sean: Comparing this product to the one my friend owns, I prefer his. This axe is just a couple inches too short to really give you good swinging power. If I was going to buy again, I would look for one slightly longer. This pays off hugely if you're actually cutting wood while back-country camping. If you are just using it to split good dry firewood to make kindling, then this product is perfect. (but again, not great for back country).
And yes, I've sharpened it many times.
